How would you grade this 1900 O Morgan Dollar?
Passed down years ago from my grandmother, has been in the family quite a while. I think I need to put it in a more protective container. The blemish on the obverse left field is from the container not the coin itself.
Thanks in advance.

Decent coin, but I think that the 2x2 isn't doing it any favors. I detect an overall greenist tint indicating possible PVC contamination.
It could use an acetone bath.
Sorry - failed to answer your question as to grade.
I'd give it a high AU grade, but it's hard for me to judge the lustre or find signs of wiping under the PVC. Hopefully the surface is not too badly etched.

An original AU coin should show some grime/dirtiness on the high points in addition to light wear. Dipping removes dirt and grime and gives the coin an overall dull, washed-out look. This coin has that look.

not buying it..the explanation that is, why would there be "dirt/grime" on the the part that shows the wear?
looks like a a.u. for sure but the cleaning..no, just a coin that's been in someones pocket for a short time.
nice coin put it in a album..although I agree it need a bath in acetone first.

Because coins circulate in a dirty environment. Back in the late 19th century the government actually used to give mild acid baths to circulated Shield nickels because of the filth that accumulated on them.
