Classic Head Large Cents and the Long Awaited 7070 Upgrade
As many type and copper collectors know, the Classic Head large cents can be challenging to find in respectable condition.
It seems the vast majority of coins are very dark, and/or heavily corroded. Decent ones, when located, tend to be quite pricey.
They were this way ~25 years ago, and the situation has gotten tougher as the years have gone by.
Here is the 'hole filler' that did reside in my album, after I grew weary of the empty hole:

Last summer an elderly EAC dealer/collector friend of mine acquired a complete date set of large cents that had been assembled
back in the late '50's and early '60's, housed in a National Coin album. After cherrypicking a few coins for his personal collection,
I got first shot at the rest of the collection, of which I purchased ~20 coins at very reasonable prices. To my pleasant surprise, there were several decent Classic Head cents in there:

and this one, which now resides in my 7070 album. It's not perfect, as there is a small spot of light corrosion (the photo makes it look a lot worse than it really is).....but fire away with your thoughts and comments.

As someone else wrote, let me know if you want to dump any of them!
Enjoy your coins!

Congratulations on your upgrade. I loved doing the early copper for my 7070. I had so much filling those holes that I think early copper will be my next quest once I finish with the 7070.
Have a great day!
Yes, I never really cared much for large cents until I started seeking higher grade coins as part of the type set. Once I saw how beautiful they can be, I was bitten, especially with the middle dates, where you could get a lot of coin for the money, relatively speaking. This same set also had a '39/6 in VF and the 15 star 1817 that I needed for my middle date collection.
A friend of mine is working on a slabbed AU/MS set. Needless to say they are VERY expensive.

<< <i>Very nice! The one in my 7070 also has a single spot of corrosion, but the coin is otherwise XF. >>
Yes Ankur, as you and I and others know, early copper is all about trade offs and compromise.....unless you have VERY deep pockets!
