Is there any or is it just the 'old boys/girls' club...wink wink. Does a 'PM sent' and a PM mean anything?

PM means Personal Message that can be sent by clicking the member's "padlock" on the right side of their post.

PM Sent is an inquiry. The seller determines who's first in line to buy.

You can often ignore "PM sent" as some people using it trying to mark as theirs, but often times, it is just a "hey, I have a question and sent you a PM"....so, if interested, then send the seller a PM yourself and if your offer is first, or meets their ask and they haven't sold it yet, then you have a chance.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I know the few things Ive bought on the BST, I replied to the thread with, "Ill take it." and send a PM. Then I hope for the best.

    PM sent can be a....

I'll take it at your price.

I would like to see images.

    I want to talk price.

I know the seller is a good guy and want to bump his listing. (This is frowned on by most of the players.)

Edit to add that not all of us even bother letting it be known we want a item and just send the PM but do not post the fact to the tread. So even if you think your first to send and post PM sent someone might of got there before you.

I agree with all of these but it just seems at times to be all too coincidental that some seller's coins are unavailable immediately due to long standing relationships getting preferance. Maybe instead of listing on the BST coins could be added to the 'Bourse Buddy Round Robin' and circulated via PM's to a select, predetermined few and save us collectors/shlimazel's some grief.

I kind of doubt that your or anyone else's PM to buy a listed coin is going ignored because the seller is waiting to see if any of his 'bourse buddies' also might want it later on....the nice stuff tends to sell pretty quickly, often within minutes of posting. I know it can be frustrating to see something you really wanted posted but then sold to someone else who got there first.
As for selling coins via PM's to a select few - I sell roughly 80% of my coins that way, rarely posting them on the BST. And I imagine many others do this also.

I actually did have that situation with a BST seller. I pm'd the guy with his asking price about 20 minutes after his listing one evening while he was still online, and he sold the group of coins at a show the very next morning. I got his reply the next afternoon. He was using my offer as a floor on the price of some bullion coins. Either someone's got integrity, or they don't.

I've only had a few questionable interactions on BST and about 90% are just fine.

The BST is a great resource. I have never been disappointed with any deal I have made on there, 95% buying. Gees, I have gotten some wonderful treasures there at sometimes ridiculously low costs. I regret that some posters find problems there.

Often PM sent means that they sent a low-ball offer that will likely be rejected.

...SOMETIMES a PM is used to alert the seller to LOG ON because that is the only way the individual could tell

they have a PM. you don't get any notice of this when you're not logged in. just my assessment of the subject. image
