India is fairly hot, but not to the levels of China yet... one just has to look at the modern-day proof sets (as seen on a recent thread here) and some of the better princely states coins from the late 19th and early 20th century (which I collect ). Quality brings high prices.
Yes, and ofcourse all our cents are made from zinc with a thin copper coating. Didn't Rome silver wash their bronze coins near the end of their empire? I believe Dogs have died from swallowing one. I hope no kids have.

A very interesting thread. I've been a collector for the last 50 or so years. I collected type when all we had was the "brown" book. When Harris came out, I started collecting European by date and mintmark. The collector has a great advantage over catalog values and dealers. The collector knows how scarce the coin is. Decades ago, I called a dealer in NH to buy a German 1 Pfennig 1930-E for 40 Cents. I knew the coin was very scarce and that was the only coin I wanted from him. The phone call cost me $2. When I collect coins, I get into it.
As far as gold and silver bullion issues, the catalog will never get it right. The prices are on yo-yo strings. As long as they give me the size, fineness, and weight, I am happy. I can do the math. Actually, Krause is missing size on many issues.
As far as the over and unders, I think they will always be. Years ago the Netherlands and Norway and several other countries became the rage to be collected. The catalogs raised the prices to the rage levels and they have yet to come down from those crazy levels in the circulated grades. I find almost all of the British Commonwealth to be over. Unders are India Princely States and many Arabic countries. Also, Nepal, Yemen, and Tibet under for the most part. I am sure there are many other examples. The common coins show up on eBay often. Be careful, and use your collector expertise to your advantage. Happy hunting.

Personally, I am still looking for a minor Colombian coin of the 20th century that catalogs $7 in Unc. Only one has appeared on eBay(several years ago), I bid $51 and lost it for $52 to someone that knew more than I did. It still catalogs in Krause $7.

U. S. Philippine coins are undervalued in Krause.
Pricing Contributors try to keep prices low so they can buy cheap and sell for a nice profit .
I was told this by several contributors to krause and the redbook.
