Hmmmm, I wonder if it might have some problem not mentioned in the description (and not known by the seller of course) which would keep it from slabbing? Or it could be that there really is a numismatic Santa.

I also think it has had too many trips to the dip can...
Think it would make a good hole filler,
20 years from now it might tone down...

see how the period in the center is more toward the left of center, closer to the V, than the B...thats the way the Philadelphia mint coins have the VDB. no exceptions.
Now, the San Francisco coins, the center period is MUCH closer to center, much closer to the B in its location. Thats how the San Francisco coins look. no exceptions.
now compare those facts with his wonderful high resolution photo, clearly showing the center period placement is close to the V, signifying a Philadelphia mint coin.

So my say on this piece is added mintmark. Its a Philly coin all the way.
This coin is an added mintmark Fake. Genuine San Francisco mint SVDBs have the center period of VDB much closer to center than closer to the V, as in your coin. Yours is a Philadelphia issue, do your own research youll see I am correct. Ray

B. Looks polished.
C. The periods on V.D.B. dies vary in position and strength. I recommend not relying on them to determine authenticity.

<< <i>well bro you buy the coin and ship it off to a TPG and then we will see if 'photo compression' has moved the period to the left. >>
No thanks.
The coin had been in an anacs certified holder

OF COURSE NOW HE HAS (or someone has) PULLED THE LISTING,
anyway, you folks who are potential buyers of raw SVDBs....KEEP those period positions in mind. Phila VDB is close to the D, San Fran VDB the period is nearly midway between the D and B (a hair closer to the D side).
because this listing used one of the pictures(notice the third one) and the full title and description from that listing.
issues. When the dot is closer to the D on a 1909-S VDB, the coin is probably fake.
On the other hand, the Philadelphia issues come with both versions of reverse, not just one.
For example, the 1909 VDB DDO Die 1 comes with the 'S' style reverse, with the centered dot.
All of the known Matte Proof 1909 VDB cents also come with the 'S' style reverse.
check this heritage archives listing, and open the enlarged view.

The VDB mattie though, does have the period more centralized, as in the S reverse.
