Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
the picture shown was taken after I searched the box and returned the cards to the box.
I have opened several vending boxes and always noticed when I returned the cards to the box the pattern was always still there.
the box is from bbce and was taped shut.. when I opened it there were about 5-6 cards laying on top (not stars)
I figured.. ok maybe someone removed some to verify the year.
I am pretty sure the box was searched because the pattern, although visible (looking exactly like my picture)
wasn't as tight or crisp as other vending boxes I have ripped that I was certain were unsearched.
I pulled very few if any stars.. I did pull an o/c puckett with a corner ding. No Clemens, gooden or Mcgwire
even though there were several doubles of usa team cards.
bbce is good and this no bash on them.. the pattern was there.. this just proves even after being searched
multiple times the pattern is still there.
my opinion is this.. unless it was pulled from a fresh case from a source you know and trust.. it was likely searched
I am a little late to the party, but there are two spots in that box which would have concerned me. The pattern should be consistent throughout.
I actually once bought a 1978 vending box that had 5 gum cards in it...LOL. Obviously, I returned it to the seller.

1. has it been searched?
2. the condition of the cards.
but , having opened multiple vending cases from 1985 through 1993 to build sets.
24 boxes 500 cards per box 12,000 cards per case and 792 cards per set in a perfect world you should get 15 cards of each player or 15 sets per vending case. Topps vending cases are far from perfect. the most complete sets that I ever got out of 1 vending case was 13, and that only happened once, the worst was 8 complete sets. most of the time it averaged 10 to 12 complete sets. The point being that out of 24 boxes you are usually only going to get 10 - 18 of anyone player, I would say the odds of pulling the exact player you want are 1 out 3 boxes, because I never opened a vending box that had 500 different players there was always doubles and sometimes triples or more.
opening just 1 vending box of any year , 2 out 3 boxes are duds/losers and I have opened vending boxes straight from the case that had cards laying on top not to often but I have seen it happen.
I sold vending boxes out of my store for just 2 years (88 & 89), but quit because I grew tired of the complaints and accusations of searching. I would make 1 customer very happy with the vending box they bought , but for every happy customer there was an unhappy one also.
OAKSEY25 , was the vending box you bought searched maybe, maybe not. I have seen some really bad vending boxes straight from sealed cases. I bought a couple older vending boxes in 1990, 1977 & 1978 boxes the 77 box was a dud , the 78 box I did really well but it is always crap shoot on player selection and the condition of the cards (corners & centering). here is the comment
I saw your post on the PSA boards. Just so you know, the box was from as
sealed case. Topps sealed them with a piece of scotch tape about 10% of the
time in 1984 and 1985. Topps laid those 5-6 cards across the top on the
ones they taped shut those years. So you did get a box from a sealed case.
In fact, you were lucky enough to get one that was sealed by Topps in the
only 2 years they sealed the boxes. Thanks for all your business! Steve
like I said.. bbce is good my issue was never with them
they are the best in the biz and I will continue to buy wax
Vending is an enigma to me.

vending boxes from BBCE. Overall I was very pleased.
I am working on a few raw sets so a bought 3 1984 Topps, 3 1983 Topps, 3 1980 Topps
and 1 1985 Topps vending box from BBCE in March.
From the 3 1984 boxes I got 0 Mattingly rookies but since I had multiple copies of that card
already I didn't really care. I got a good assortment of other stars however.
From the 1985 box I pulled 2 McGwire rookies as well as a Puckett and Clemens. This box
was taped and had several cards on top of the others.
I pulled a Henderson rookie from each of the 3 1980 Topps vending boxes.
From the 1983 Topps vending boxes I pulled 4 Sandberg rookies, 3 Boggs rookies, and 2
Gwynn rookies. Although I am putting together raw sets one of Gwynn rookies is so nice
that I plan on having it graded (it is at least a 9).

We purchase a case of '79 vending from BBCX last year and pulled an Ozzie every 1.5 boxes.
So we ended up with at least 16 #116s.

I am confused. How many of you are there?
