PayPal dispute: buyer won (?) and I am expecting my first neg - update on first post

I have had an issue with an eBay sale. I discussed it in this thread and the general consensus was that the buyer misread the auction's terms.
edited to add (if you don't want to read the old thread): buyer claimed he was expecting 20 rolls while the auction was clearly for 10 rolls.
Today I have received the email from PayPal stating that the buyer is allowed to return the merchandise for a full refund. (and probably leave a negative feedback too!)
Well, at the end I just lost some of my time but it left some bitter in my mouth to see how these people took (poor) care of my business.
It is clear that they didn't read the buyer's comments and they haven't properly investigated the issue.
I will be just a buyer from now on.
---------------------------------
After PayPal sided the buyer on the dispute I spoke with a supervisor that confirmed they made the wrong decision and agree to refund me $30 for the shipping charges and the hassle.
The buyer was then allowed to return the merchandise. He did create the label on 5/25 (the deadline was 5/27) and shipped it on 6/2.
Today I have received the package in an Priority Flat rate envelope stating a weight of 2 lbs (note that I had to use a Medium Flat rate box to ship 10 the rolls, 2 Mint sets and the Lincoln dollar).
The package weighs 6 oz and I feel that there will be only the empty tubes I sent as a gift.
I spoke with PayPal and they said that my claim would be enough to get my money back.
I am planning to take pictures and record the opening of the package.
Any other advice?

Sorry, I see plenty of PayPal/eBay issues threads and I thought it was worth it to share my bad experience.
Should I delete it?

Fair enough. Though, it's not just a complaint, it's also a way to understand if I made a mistake that cannot notice and get some advice.

Paypal seems to favor the buyer when it comes to complaints.
Complaints of non-receipt usually go away after Paypal is given the USPS or UPS tracking #.
In cases of buyers complaining an item is not as described, I would ask the buyer to return the item and then refund them, as long as this all occurred in a reasonable time frame.
I won't ship outside the USA and Canada - and only ship via Registered Mail to Canadian address - because of Paypal's bias in favor of buyers.
Fortunately I have had just a few problem in over a decade of selling on eBay and those were always ironed out without any help from Paypal or eBay.
Frankly I think eBay/Paypal threw the baby out with the bathwater in the case of no negative feedback for buyers and bias in favor of buyers.
Granted, there were many sellers who were (and maybe still are) out and out thieves but eBay overreacted to the problem.
eBay should post a negative feedback to a buyer who doesn't pay or tries to play the system, and prevent that buyer from leaving feedback at all.
Now, will you reveal the buyer's identity?

<< <i>Offering a full refund in exchange for return of the merchandise is the best way to handle eBay buyer dissatisfaction. Even if the buyer is "wrong," you're better off handling it this way. >>
<< <i>eBay should post a negative feedback to a buyer who doesn't pay or tries to play the system, and prevent that buyer from leaving feedback at all >>
A non-paying bidder should get an automatic negative feedback posted by eBay. After, say three non-paying feedbacks, their account is suspended for a month. If they get three more after sitting out for a month, they get suspended permanently. After all, eBay doesn’t make any money from non-paying bidders.

Thats the best idea ive seen in a long time.
<< <i>You'll get your coins back, paypal knows this, probably why they sided with buyer. This way they think they are making everyone whole again.

That's what I thought. Still I don't understand how the person who took care of the dispute could make such a wrong decision.
I shouldn't have any problem receiving my merchandise back. He stated that he received the whole list I had in my auction. He tought to receive double the rolls. Maybe that's why he placed an offer and 10 minutes later he hit the BIN button...too good to be true! In fact, it was not!
Just to complete my week, yesterday I received the package with my first gold 1-ozer (after the UHR) and it wasn't the year I expected! So I have to return it!
I am still thinking he misread my auction and then he thought he overpaid for the actual lot.
I will out him if he leaves a neg (meanwhile I will PM you his name).
Of course I will create a new thread in order to reveal his identity!
Absolutely, totally & 100% correct. It is NOT worth the hassle and frustration trying to make a sale stick. If they want out and are willing to return the item...I let 'em out and bend over backwards to do it sweetly. Nothing is lost except a sale and that can always be made up. Goodwill cannot. If the person is a jerk or a repeat problem, they get blocked and I move on. I've spent my time banging my head against the EBAY/Paypal crew when it comes to unreasonable buyers and have learned the hard way that is an unproductive route.

"I think this guy is trying to scam me out of $100"
well, he could be doing that, or he could have just been confused and trying to work something out.
I think his initial worry of getting scammed for $100 was exacerbated with the thoughts of "the buyer may not return everything to you."
So, issuing refunds and all are common sense suggestions but don't fit the worries the seller has and has had created.
Hopefully, we are right and the guy is just confused and sends everything back. The guys claim contradicted itself, so I'm thinking he's really confused.
good luck, and hope you get it all back. If you do get it all back, you might explain to him the errors of his description reading and express happiness he got back to even. Maybe you won't even get a negative. Who knows.
Keep us posted.
Though you were right in the matter at hand, your listing is too complicated and left room for interpretation and confusion.

"2009 Lincoln Proof Silver Dollar, 10 Rolls, 2 Mint Sets". Does it look complicated to you?
Consider also that the buyer sells only lincoln rolls and coins on eBay!
<< <i>Also, be prepared in case an empty box arrives from the buyer with a signature delivery. When I get returns I always have it sent w/ signature return and then do not receive the package at home but rather make them take it back to the post office. Then I go the next day to the post office and when I go up to the desk to hand them my slip for the package I have my wife video tape the postal working handing me the package and then I open it right in front of the worker before I leave the desk so that I, the postal worker and my wife's cell phone video tape see exactly what was in the package directly after the postal worker handed it to me. If you do not do something like this and you sign the delivery acknowledgement, you are on the hook for whatever is, or isn't, inside that box. I do not want to be the proud owner of a $250 hunk of cement, so I make sure that if I ever come across a dishonest buyer who wants to return an empty box, I'll have proof it was empty when I got the box. >>
My post office would think i was nuts if i brought a video camera in. I would think an affidavit signed by the post master would suffice. I had customers taking cover when i walked in Academy sports with my AR-15 to have a Leupold scope installed, i was glad no one was packing.

I'm in a nail biter right now.
I took the trouble to hand deliver a package to a buyer's local post office. the guy obviously was in the parking lot waiting. I didn't know that. I drop it off and ask the supervisor to try to get it out for delivery that same day. (gotta earn those stars and feedback) Well, I get home an hour later and online shows nothing. So I e-mail the guy. "I tried" He says "thanks and I'll leave positive feedback when I get the coin." Then I look online later in the day and the Post Office shows it was delivered and signed for by (The guy) 5 minutes after I dropped it off.
So, he knew he had the package, but told me an hour after getting it that "he'll leave positive when he gets the coin" ???????
It has me worried about fraud. My stomach's in a knot wondering if this guy is going to claim item not received. Sure, paypal will side with me. But there's always that fear of "if someone is intent of pulling a scam, they'll keep trying" aspect.... just as what is apparent in this thread.
The guy hasn't left me feedback yet, and I did respond back saying "I noticed you picked it up, I'm ready to exchange feedback" and haven't heard anything back.
If this guy tries to scam me, I'm going to out him in a heartbeat.
Regarding direct TV, they have a great arbitration clause if they refuse to make things right. File and arb claim and they'll get hit with a minimum of $550 case management fee followed by a non-refundable arbitratior fee of $500 hr....Oh ya and that's billed at a 10 Hr minimum, so $5K+550, and more to come if you complicate the arb...Strong incentive to play fair with consumers...

They ruled in his favor? The Ebay/PayPal business model is going to put them out of business. I am also concerned that good sellers will continue to leave in large quantities, making eBay an even larger dumping ground for junk.
Has been added to the list thanks for the info on this scammer.

I quite understand your frustration, however a Buyer has conditional rights as well as stated in both the EBAY and PayPal Policies. I have recently quit being a Seller on EBAY, not for any negative feedback issues , but rather for a lack of educated buyers. Henceforth, I now only consign my re-sale items to only highly recognized Coin Auction Firms. It costs slightly more than the EBAY fees, but at least I can feel assured my coins are being viewed and considered buy knowledgeable collectors, who will bid appropriately. Now I don't have to be concerned with buyers who won't bid higher than $80.00 on a $600.00 wholesale coin, but they will spend over a hundred dollars on " JUNK" and counterfeited items. It's a no brainer for me now.
I am not american and not sure how things works here in the US.
PayPal requires me to file a police report and submit a copy to them.
How does that work?
Should I just go to the PD with the opened package and ask them to file a report?
Did this ever happen to you?
Thanks as always!
