What has boosted the 1862 Quarter Eagle so much in the past year?

Is someone out there driving up the market on these? Prices realized for most grades have tripled in the past year.
AU58s were selling for $800-$1000 in 2008. To get a nice one is over $3,000 now.

Anybody else know why they've gone up so much since 2008?

About that time I recall posting a question wondering about the disparity between the price guides for the 1862 $2.50.
In 2009 I purchased an 1862 off ebay in PCGS AU50 for $435. In January 2011 it sold for $1,380 (including the BP) at Heritage.
