I think it's real. It's certainly been messed with though.

Looks real, and definitely UNC details. But the reverse especially looks messed with.

Can you tell if there is a die chip in the top inside loop of the s?

Take a look at the roll of cents we are supposed to take as original 1909 (presumably s) VDB from the Bank of America. A bit remarkable, since Bank of America did not operate under that name until the 1920s ...

Sorry, my prior post was incoherent since it referred to a different seller ... in any case, here is the amusing listing:

Do people really bid on "original rolls" on eBay thinking they are going to get a full roll of BU 1909-S VDBs???

I would hope that the scammers presenting these 'rolls' know they are selling to the 'illuminati' that have nothing better to do that fork over money to scammers just for the entertainment value in their otherwise boring lives.

In that case, all is OK. Numismatists need not concern themselves over the obvious numismatic problems in a listing such as this. Move on . . there is nothing of interest here.

(Still looking for an actual 1909-S VDB in a Doily . . but not one of these 'roll' thingies . .)

This seller also has several BU 1955 double dies for sale. They are all bright and the color seems off IMO. Interestingly, he has one NGC XF 40 for sale for more than some of his BU's.

I agree. Genuine, or an excellent copy. Most certainly doctored. Why else would you sell a $5k coin for $1995?

You always have to ask yourself why the key date of the entire series and portrayed as a high grade is being sold raw.
