Did I (almost) get burned? A close call.

Well the old saying is, if it's too good to be true it probably is.

So I win this auction: 1880-CC $1 MS65 PCGS Morgan Dollars

Almost immediately the seller marks the item payment received and wants me to pay his emailed invoice from a hotmail address.

I paid thru Ebay (which thank God he did not collect) and instead he asked me to cancel my payment and pay the invoice.

The invoice has chinese characters on it!!

I now wake up and check his feedbacks, all 3 are as buyer of 99 cent items from Hong Kong I'm confident in paypal buyer protection, but not that confident.

History shows he has sold 4 high value morgan dollars allegedly in PCGS slabs in the past 2 days. I have no idea if he is simply going to scamper with the money, deliver fake slabs, or what. Luckily I woke up in the nick of time.

Is there anyway to get ebay or paypal to look into this guy or warn the other buyers?

    Report him for trying to get you to pay outside of Ebay.

    Why would you attempt to buy a relatively expensive coin from a seller with a feedback of 3 and that has never sold a coin on Ebay? Don't get it.

    Why are you going after a fairly available coin with negative eye-appealing toning in front of Liberty's face? Probably from dip residue.
    This is a quality oriented market and probably will be so for quite some time. Regardless of how clean the coin might be otherwise,
    this seems like a low-end coin to me. The issues with a low feedback seller trying to get paid around Ebay are just an added "bonus."

    Most likely up to no good, concerning your identity, and financial data. Report them immediately.

    Call it a rookie mistake. I didn't think it through in many respects. Thanks for your comments. The seller is now "no longer a registered ebay member". No surprise.
