Unopened boxes of 20th Annv SAE sets......would you

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,790 ✭✭✭✭✭
sell them if you have any left?

I kind of liked them back when I got them and have an offer for my last box of 5 sealed sets (plus one sealed set my mother has).
Thinking of selling, but kind of like them. Not worried about spotting because I haven't had a single SAE spot over the years (raw/PCGS plastic/etc).

Could always enjoy the cash, but don't need it for day to day.

Maybe keep the 1 set, pay mom for it from the portion of the 5 sets and sell those? Want to leave a "legacy" to my son down the road and think one of these sets would be cool.

Used to be a lot of sealed sets out there but not sure anymore....thoughts?
I won't submit them myself....I may flip things but not a heavy submitting game-player....and, no, they are not FS eligible (co-worker bought them and received them after the fact then sold me the unopened box back then)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

If you have one of the original puck sets in an unsealed box...and you don't need the money, I'd suggest holding on to them in that manner.

They may prove to be like unopened mint and proof sets, etc. in the future and command big bucks as time passes.

OTOH, if you have a better use/need/place for the money now.....I'd sell them. I'd only keep it intact and closed if you can really afford to do so.

MS70 reverse with PCGS are going for too much to not want to bust open your sets and have them graded, if you're thinking of selling them anyway.
Otherwise you're leaving money on the table for the next guy to profit off of.

Ditto. I sold of mine after hearing about all the problems with milk spots.

Yep. Could be leaving money on the table, but there is also a gamble and expense to it. I no longer have the time/desire to play the extra games so I am fine with selling and wishing someone good luck and hoping they score big with what I sell them.

To me, it's all good image

Nah....I had an offer, before I started this thread, that I was contemplating.
The first few posts reinforced what I was already thinking so I closed on the offer and will ship them off once paid and the check is cleared.
They will go out as they were received...unopened/sealed.

It would be just my luck, though, that they somehow rainbow toned in the 5 years of having them, and go for a bundle for the new owner image

Well Ron, I opened my box of 10 and had Lucy Bops submit 5 reverse proofs for grading. PCGS gave me 1 PF70. 3 PF69 and one PF68. In hind sight, I would have been better off keeping the box sealed and selling them at the top of the market. As I remember, they reached around $9k for a sealed box of 10.

I'd sell the sealed box of 5 and keep the single set.

I would submit them sealed to PCGS. Go for the PCGS REV PR70!

You can always play, "shoulda, woulda, coulda" but in this case, the peak price was established long ago and the premium for having an unopened box is pretty nominal. You have to assume that everything concerning populations has already been factored into both the slabbed pricing and the unopened box pricing. Sure, someone else might score with your former coins, but it's not like they won't have to jump through hoops in order to do it. I don't disagree with your decision.

They sure have kept their value better than those lame Lincoln Coin & Chronicle sets...
