Al Levy has Passed Away

For those of you who do not know, error coin dealer Al Levy passed away from cancer last friday. The error hobby has lost one of its "greats", and he will be greatly missed by friends and the hobby as a whole.

What a shame. I bought one of my first slabbed coins from him, a 1909-S/Horiz S ANACS F15 from him.

I am so sorry to hear this very bad news. I bought many coins from Al and have talk with him at Long Beach.

He had many awesome error coins in his inventory and had great deal of knowledge on the subject.

    A message from Broadstruck:

OMG as I became totally numb just reading the thread title! image

I knew something was up as I saw Al's inventory vanish off his website, yet I never expected he was ill.

Al was truly a pleasure to deal with and I'll miss him dearly, as I did far more business with him then all the other error dealers combined.

That's too bad. For those who knew Al, he was one of the few true 'gems' in the error business. He will be sorely missed.

I am very saddened to hear of this, as many of the coins in my clipped Lincoln set have his pedigree. I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person since we lived on opposite coasts but even via email he was always great to deal with and shared his knowledge freely with me when I was just starting off in error coins. Jon if you are able please send along my condolences to his family.

That is sad news. I never met Al, but did a lot of trading with him. He was always fair and a gentleman.

I am saddened to hear about this. Although I have never had the opportunity to meet or speak to him, I have bought from him and bid against him on eBay for the past 8 years. My condolences to his family.

I am sorry to hear of this. It is always the case that we have lost the expertise and knowledge of this area of numismatics when a specialist in this area passes away. Praying for the family. image -Dan

I've knew Al for almost 20 years - what a real great guy! I used to set up next to him at Long Beach for many a year and will miss him. I sold him many error coins and trusted him 110%. I am socked to learn of his passing and even more socked that he did not mention anything to me at the last Long Beach show. RIP my friend.
In 30+ years I have done nothing positive for the hobby because I'm lazy!
