A Neat McDonalds Change Find and A Cool Cent Box Search

We stopped through the drivethru at MacDonalds the other day for a drink - when I got the change I noticed something funny that I got as a dime:
First time I had gotten one of these in change where it still had the original zinc plating and wasn't all corroded out.
Doing cent box searches today, searched 5000 cents and turned up 69 wheats - the most ever for that number of boxes. The best find was this:
Abe is 101 years old, he has also three brothers dated 1918 and two 1920s - the rest of the cents were all 1939-58.

And with the new reverse 1 cent designs issued recently, people are more accustomed to seeing "unusual" designs on pennies - and don't give them a second look - rather than immediately pulling them out of circulation.

And 69 wheaties in one box is a heckuva haul! Nice job.
That 1910 sure is very nice. Kudos to you.
However, I suspect we'll soon see hoarding of pre-1982 pennies for the copper content, and the wheat cents will start disappearing again. This will especially be the case if the copper content tops five cents per coin. Right now, we're floating around 2.8 cents per coin.

10 wheats per box is the goal - the usual average. I have had one box a few months ago that had a single wheat in the whole box - but - it was a 1926!
I also did a nickel search, only 14 rolls, but I did find a '49-S and a '54-S and a few other early dated Jeffersons.
I searched a bank bag earlier in the week - not bad results on wheaties, I think there were 15 of them in a $30 bag - but the better find was the $3.50 in dimes.
Everytime I think I am going to cut back, I cave in and am glad I did. It is like gambling - an addiction and a fairly harmless one.

Totally true. I started doing cents, nickels and dimes when halves dried up for me a few years ago. Nickels have been the most fun - I need 4 more to complete the set, and I've found over a roll's worth of buffalo's and even a liberty. cents are fun just for seeing those wheat ears. I only do dimes sporadically, but I usually find 1 or 2 silver roosies per box. They're just a pain to sort through.
