Fun day at central states found some new busties and dirty gold grades posted

fishteethfishteeth Posts: 2,264 ✭✭✭✭✭
spent a few hrs today at Central states, would have liked to spend more but the wife gave me a strict time table and, not wanting to have to cut my collection in half, I
decided to listen to her...
The few hrs I was able to spend at the show were very productive. Managed to find a few nice bust halves for the set and some fun gold coins. Did not get a chance to meet many forum members, with such a short time I needed to focus on coins. The nicest suprise of the show was running into Liz from JJteaparty, they were not set up at the show but she apparently came in to do some buying. I had never meet Liz in person just talked on the phone but amazingly she reconized my name from some recent dealings and introoduced herself. She then took the time to show me a number of her finds at the show. Needless to say she will have a few less to post on the website. I must say that in the few dealings I have had with JJteaparty and gail and Liz I am VERY impressed. She also made some very good offers for the coins I had to sell.

The bust halves that I purchaed were all upgrades to my set that I just could not pass up. The 1823 ugly three looks much nicer in hand, better than many AU's hairlines on slab. The 1814 is an E/A which luckily Was not noticed by PCGS
The three dollar gold piece is a coin I have been looking for for a long time, they all seem to be messed with, I looked at over 30 AU-low MS 3's today and had just about given up when I
ran into this 1857 on the way out the door. Coin has a really beat up slab that I need to work on, but no marks or hairlines on the coin and great eyeappeal.
the other gold coins were just nice original looking pieces I could not turn down.

On a side note I was able to sell 90% silver for 33.5X, low grade morgans for 38 and BU morgans for 45

I will post grades tomorrow if anyone wants to try their grading abilities

I'll try to guess the grades on the busties, don't know gold grades...
    1808 35
    1814 35
    1823 45 ?
almost purely guessing, love that late die state on the E/A !

wow, that's quite a shopping spree, well done! Sounds like you converted bulky silver bullion (and probably some FRNs, too) into compact numismatic bullion image

That 1823 is sweet for a 45. I keep coming back to it. Very appealing.

Well done on the bust halves! The 14 has a LOT of character! I like the 1808, too. Nice grabs.

    Nice CBH newps Chris...Congrats!!

Just curious, did Liz also not notice the E/A on the 1814?

I also happened to have found my 1814 E/A PCGS 55 this way, there was no E/A noted on the holder however the dealer said it was an "O-108a" on his website description, so did he know or not? Anyway, the best part of the story was that is was priced as a regular 1814 PCGS 55!!!

Liz is probably the smartest and sharpest dealer on the floor! Sounds like you did really well.
