Fake Morgan in Fake Slab on Australian eBay?

I post over on the world forums and know nothing about US coins (I'm in Australia). I've seen the coin below relisted a couple of times and it seemed very odd that such a coin would be sold out of a small town in my home state. Any comments on it's authenticity?

Is this fake?

Sold on Heritage for $40,250.00 back in 2008. $11k BIN on eBay now?

Here's the PCGS Cert Verification page and the Heritage page.
  • They're using the Heritage obverse photo.

the potential scam is to sell something you do not own, clean out the accounts, then close the accounts, and eBay/PayPal will have to eat the losses.

since I can't verify who owns the coin, I'm not reporting it.

however, the photo reuse and the price make me highly suspicious.

(plus I'm getting tired of reporting this stuff as an unpaid person, and eBay raising fees on my auctions)

But the pic is not of a fake. It was taken straight off the Heritage site photo. (at least the obverse pic!)

  • I sent the seller this question:

    "Dear ahow6235,

Hi...nice coin...Quick question: I saw that this is the exact coin sold at Heritage in 2008. And you are using their photo. But your pic of the reverse is of a different coin. How can I be sure you have the actual coin? Can you provide more pics of the obverse? As you would agree, a coin of this price, I would need a little more info, ie, provenance of the sale from Heritage and better pics would be very helpful. Thanks for any more advice or info!...."

He was quick with this reply:

"yes i used their photo for the front because my scanner stopped working after i scaned the reverse side (my coin) but the coin is identical. i have a new scanner now and would be happy to send pics via email?? if anything looks dodgy or out of place of the coin please let me know and i will get back to the person i brought it off. cheers for the advice anymore would be awesome thanks.

I got a very similar reply from the seller:

<< <i>yes, the picture you see of the front of the coin is not mine but it is identical, the reason why i didnt put the picture of the front of my coin on there is because my scanner stopped working after i scanned the reverse side of the coin. i have a new scanner now and would be happy to email you pics. >>

I was one of those that gave him a heads up with the link to the Flicker page.

He sent me two emails and was not a happy camper. Said he's been taken big time.

    Hope he gets revenge!!
