So I bought a collection this morning...

Going through this collection, there is a small bag of foreign coins and I find a nice, even, circulated gray 1871 Mexican 50 centavos. My wife is from Mexico, so I take it up and show it to her. A few minutes later, her mother (who is staying for awhile) calls me over and gives me the coin back. Her mother had scrubbed the coin harshly and it is bright white! I was and am still stunned!!

If it has the Cn mintmark (Culiacan), it would have booked at $400 in fine.

if it was minted in Durango(Do) there were 591 pieces made. No catalogue value.

I learned my lesson by giving a nice raw seated half dollar to a co-worker to look to look at.
He proceeded to drop it on the floor.
