The show will be in Rosemont, not in Chicago. It's still a 40-minute ride to The Loop from the Stephens Convention Center. It's sort of like the Newark dilemma: your plane ticket says New York/ Newark but you're actually landing in New Jersey. It's a bit like wanting to buy the genuine item but in reality you're getting the knock-off.
Of course the ANA says it'll be a great show. I don't expect them to tell you "come to Chicago but our show may be a bit crappy".

<< <i>Rent a car or take public transportation to downtown when you like. It's worth it. >>
From Rosemont public transportation on the "El" will still take at least 40 minutes to The Loop. Go downtown in a car? Last time I did that in a taxi from the convention center at 6pm I got there 90 minutes and $87 later, and that didn't include tip. For that money I could've flown to Minneapolis and have a few dollars to spare.
Still, advertising the ANA convention as a Chicago show would be like trying to sell the Santa Clara expo as a San Francisco show. Close but not quite. Someday I would enjoy the experience of going to an ANA convention held at the McCormick rather than in the 'burbs.

ANA at the McCormick would be a mistake. Parking is a MAJOR hassle, there are few hotels close by and it would turn off those inclined to drive.

Taxi from O'Hare/Rosemont convention ctr. to downtown Chicago is around $40. Even with traffic it isn't much more than that. Or, save yourself the hassle and take the El (subway) for $2.25 right to downtown.
If you're gonna be in the area, it's a no-brainer to go into the city rather than hanging out in Rosemont the whole time.
Edited to add: You can't compare Newark to Rosemont, except maybe in terms of distance. Rosemont and basically the entire area between there and downtown Chicago (the Northwest side) is relatively nice and safe.

Keep dreaming.
McCormick Place is not going to have the flexibility of Stephens Convention Center and it's going to be much more expensive. Are you aware of what you need to pay the union workers to make a show happen? Even with the recently negotiated contract it's mucho dinero.
This is going to be a great show! (even with the sea gulls like Wei!)
There is no "AT" or "NT". We only have "market acceptable" or "not market acceptable.
I drive six hours round trip to Chicago twice a week. I would MUCH rather attend a show in the suburbs (next to one of the airports) then in downtown Chicago.
All four convention centers in Chicagoland (Rosemont, Renaissance, Navy Pier, McCormick) have well-known drawbacks. I've been to a ton of trade shows at all of 'em. The problem is that none of them are organically planted (within reasonable walking distance) where the action is - Mag Mile, River North, Lincoln Park, even the Loop has a lot more nighttime activity than it used to.
I live in the Chicago burbs and would rather attend the ANA in Baltimore, or Boston, or Philadelphia, or NYC, than here. None of those cities have this problem.
Rosemont is like Vegas. Fake, not very old, planted out of nothing, and you need a car to go anywhere. All Rosemont has that is authentic is the airport (which technically is actually in Chicago).
I wish the ANA the best. For whatever reason (probably airfare & central location) Chicago has a decent convention biz in spite of itself. Hopefully it works for the ANA. They are good people and making their decisions in good faith.

I guess you're part of the "I want an ANA in Omaha" crowd. Good thing most of the ANA board has verbally promised they won't ever let that happen.
Between the hours of 9am to 7pm most of us will not see anything other than coins. Seeing nothing but coins for ten hours straight makes you want to see something else other than coins between the hours of 7pm and 9am. Unless you're Mark Feld/ Coinguy1, going back to the hotel and going to sleep at 8pm is not an option.

The number 1 top top top thing about Rosemont is the security. They have it down to a science and have made the convention center one of safest locations for a coin show. I would love to see the show in the loop or at McCormick place (cut my commute to five minutes). However, Rosemont is the next best thing in Chicagoland. As far as CSNS in Schaumburg...? Don't get me started on that one.
