Ebay Question: What do you do

if you received an order for coins for a couple thousand dollars from someone with zero transaction history and who just signed up a couple days ago?
What can you do to not accept the order?

Everyone starts somewhere and if you follow the rules, you should be fine.
What if someone walked into a B&M you own. You've never seen them before and they want to purchase a raw coin for several thousand dollars?
Do you sell to them? What if they want to pay with a check? What if they want to pay with a CC (and you already accept CCs)?
Same thing with ebay and paypal. Make sure all communication is through the ebay system. Make sure they are confirmed (Paypal) and that you have all the mail requirements that you need. Ship it registered and only to the person and the address listed. Etc etc.
If the only question is to "not accept the order", then don't sell on ebay, seriously, as there are always new folks signing up on ebay to buy stuff.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>idk, i'd feel fine with the transaction if their payment (paypal or money order, something like that) cleared. >>
yup
throw some signature confirmation on there and there ya go
Buyers can claim non-receipt of items or that the item they received is not what they ordered (such as a box of rocks rather than a box of gold). PayPal will do a chargeback. Very little you can do to protect yourself against that.
No Way Out: Stimulus and Money Printing Are the Only Path Left
send the dealer the coin and have the buyer go to him with cash, or a Paypal payment and pick up the coins...
Have the buyer sign an acceptance letter you can later show.
may cost some juice but..... peace of mind might be worth it
Sold a platinum proof is a user with 0 feedback, registration= brand new. Waited for payment, contacted buyer, waited some more. Got a couple of emails "I can't figure out how to pay, etc..." , thought I was getting scammed.
Finally ended up calling him - an older gentleman who wasn't very computer savy. Walked him through the steps, etc with Paypal and the sale was a sucess.
Ended up doing multiple transactions with him.
As a previous poster mentioned, got to start somewhere!
<< <i>Looks like a house but no listed phone. The order is for raw coins. >>
I also check property tax records if available.
I feel a bit safer knowing the person owns and has been there for a while.
<< <i>Everything is fine until they file a SNAD - but anyone can do that. SNAD = Signifigantly Not As Described.

Do you suppose the guy's name is Rocky Balboa?
