Where are MS63-66 Morgans headed as Silver continues to rise??

ManorcourtmanManorcourtman Posts: 8,194 ✭✭✭✭✭
Where do you guys see common date MS Morgans headed if silver continue its run? I'm talking PCGS 63, 64, 65 and 66's. Curious as to what some of the seasoned dealers see in the coming months/years if silver continues to rise. Any thoughts???

If silver continues to run, common-date Morgans in 63-66 will likely increase in value. I don't see it being proportionate though. If Silver goes from $45 to $60, will a MS-63 common date go from $65 to $80, I guess that is likely. But will a MS-66 go from $350 to $465 (same percentage increase)... I don't think so.

Disclosure: I did not think MS-63s through MS-66s would increase so much, so quickly.

People have to be thinking MS-67s are cheap at the moment. I do.

It's not the MS............... but the circulated common morgans! I got $39.16 each from Apmex on Thursday. I paid $3 each 12 years ago. Alot of common low grade coins are going to get melted down.

I believe these higher silver prices will only add fuel to the fire.

I see MS63/MS64 PCGS/NGC blast white common date Morgans and Peace dollars prices to continue to rise....quickly.

Where else in the world can one buy a sovereign issued crown sized 1 oz silver coin from the 1800's in choice mint state condition for 3X spot? I can't think of any.
Makes the Morgans from the wild west sort of interesting. Unlike "shipwreck effect" coins with etched surfaces costing multiples more, the Morgans are like the day
they were struck and tossed into hoppers.

I don't follow the trends much.
A dealer friend who does, told me three months ago that common date 63's were going to $100 this year and 64's to $200.
Where he got this info. I don't know. His prediction is looking more likely all the time though.

All he had to know was that certain dealers were accumulating them for a promotion. The rest just happens.

Agreed. $500 65s would mean $150-$200 silver? I don't know, something like that though.

The promoters will decide when they pull the plug. When they do, it will be like the classic gold market when they pulled the plug there. Many will remember that promoters drove premiums to some common classic gold coins to 150% over melt value. Now they are back to about 5% to 10% over spot for the same coins. That hot money is now pounding into generic Morgans. It will be interesting to see if they branch out, and go for Walkers or circ Bust Halves or other numismatic coins that may be available in quantity, or stick to Morgans then pull the plug.

As for $500 for common MS65s, certain "select" clients may already paying close to that. The ugly side of these promotions, and that side of the coin business, is that a lot of ordinary folks get buried. Whether they get to $500 on the GS, depends on how many marks the promoters can line up, with their radio ads and hard sell phone calls.

Anyone else remember true certified MS65 Morgans going for $500 back in the 1980's?
I remember folks lining up at the coin shop during the boom.

I'm thinking more like $75 silver will get to that price. I said a few weeks back that $50 silver would mean $300 Morgans. I think we're there
