Latest ebay bucks deal

notwilightnotwilight Posts: 12,864 ✭✭✭
I got an email that ebay was offering 10% ebay bucks for purchases using IE 9. I installed IE9 (I guess they got what they wanted) but it looks like you also need windows 7. Anybody made this promotion work for coins? --Jerry

    When in doubt, don't.

It's about time for me to upgrade my PC. First I want confirmation it works for coins and doesn't have a $25 max or something like that. --jerry
  • Windows 7 has got to be the worst OS ive seen that's current. i'd lay money it's replaced by years end the same as Win 2000 was. I liked XP and Win 98 which by a lot of peoples view was the most secure product microsoft had.My laptop has Vista but the ol'ladys is 7 , i'll get her to upgrade to explorer 9 and see what kind of bucks are to be had.

I thought about trying to get the coupon on my sons laptop which has Win7, then remembered that I put IE 9 on my laptop which is running Vista, and it caused nearly every webpage I went to, to give this message... "encountered an error which caused internet explorer to shut down".

I now run Mozilla Firefox for web browsing and pages load faster and have had no problems what-so-ever.

Soon as I can afford it, my computer and the other 3 laptops in the house will be traded for Macs and we'll be done with the Microsoft Hostage Situation.

My current Imac works great, it's just that my 4 year old has confiscated it for online gaming.

The deal is also valid for Vista.

FYI that if you got a message like that, it is likely some other issue on your computer causing it and just being exposed by IE9 as, if it were IE9, then there would be a ton of reports on that.....
People will do what they will, and many will complain about "free" gifts (anyone remember BING cash rewards and the 30%+ cashback and how there were folks complaining/whining about it and that it was Microsoft doing it?).

I just wonder, if doing this, does the 10% ebay bucks show up as being valid BEFORE you hit the purchase button? Ie....I tried it with IE9, and am on the ebay bucks, but I only saw the 2%, so I didn't purchase yet.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

IE9 works ONLY on vista/Win7, and, yes, there are ways to verify, but I doubt they are doing it.

Though, James, if you are saying that Win7 sucks (and I really disagree with that as I have been running Win7 on all my machines for a LONG time and I stayed away from vista for even longer) and you like Vista.....well, ummmmm, then you either have a bad install of Win7 or something else is going on...... image

    Same experience here.

However, when I click on the "Learn More" button on the email the page it goes to has this message:

"Looking for the eBay Bucks — Internet Explorer 9 promotion? The offer is available only on Windows 7. Please read our FAQ"

Makes me think they see that i'm not running Windows 7 and don't even give me the details...I guess nobody here on the forum is running Windows 7.

The last part isn't true image
I tried it on a Win7/IE9 yesterday but didn't complete for 2 reasons:
    1) Still saw the 2% ebay bucks when I looked at an auction and wasn't sure if I had to complete it or what in order to get the 10%
    2) Wasn't REALLY wanting that item, enough to buy it at least, as I was just looking to see if this 10% was working....

I'm doing this promotion, but I still haven't seen the 10% (Regular 2% eBay bucks, and the extra 8%). In ebay's Terms & Conditions, it said the 8% extra will appear in 1-7 days. I guess I'll have to wait to see if it really works image

Both operating systems came pre installed , i didnt like Vista either but was forced to use it so became complacent as it's only a stepping stone to the internet for me anymore. My ol'lady has 7 and i probably got tired of microsofts bs changing things around and making it more a media platform so i didn't like it from the get go.I go as far back as the pre windows Dos days and have seen a few OS's , microsofts are easier for most people but have progressively went downhill since 98 in my view.Since then only XP escaped my criticism , doesnt make me right of course , just my own opinion.

For you Mac folks, if you're running an Intel processor you can install Vista/Windows 7 on a hard-drive partition and have dual boot capability. I do this for the occasional windows-only software/files that I need to get access to. Works well.

Already there are reports online of the extra 8% going through in as early as 24 hours. The 8% will not show up first like the 2% does. The deal works out you just have to wait for the 8% to kick in. BTW the very 1st transaction nets you 10% + $5 Ebay bucks

  • Time i was upgrading to IE9 and snagging something neat on the cheap if it's that easy and it'll work with Vista as previously suggested.A user can always switch to firefox right after ?, IE8 is rubbish so i don't hold out hopes for 9.

Ooops just seen the update on the vista..i could use the Mrs's lappie if i ask nicely though.

I went direct from XP to WIN7.

Personally, I think WIN7 is terrific. It just takes awhile to learn -----OJT.

It does seem to have some compatibility issues.

TMobile might be wishing it was never developed. I am in a contract with them and they are getting the AX shortly.
    Have a nice day

OK, I just did the IE9, pinned ebay on my task bar. Now what? How do I confirm that I'm in on the deal? Through an email?

  • 98 and XP were and are great, MS 7 and ME (millennium edition) have got to be the biggest piece of garbage I ever had the displeasure of having installed. It took me forever to find my coin computer, my Asus Zee (Best Buy) with windows XP on it, when I go it I paid $50 less and don't have the issues. By the way, these little 80 mb or gb Asus net books from best buy are awesome for under $250. I have all my inventory, currency prices (Gengerke and Track and Price), my CDN, spread sheets and all the specialty websites saved. With a wireless set up it is DANGEROUS at a coin show! Having access to everything instantly changes collecting. I an see a coin, take a picture, up load it, post it here and get a response by the time I am at the next table.

All the directions say (and all I did) was click that pinned ebay icon, and pay for an item as normal. A few days later you should get the 8% (and $5 for the first purchase) extra rebates in your Ebay bucks page. I haven't received an email or anything.

I have Windows 7. Its been pretty good so far. Like XP no issues here. Vista i heard was a nightmare for microsoft. I miss the old school days of Win 3.1 and Win 3.11 So simple yet you dont know what time it is. Then again you had AOL 3.0 to use.

I must be doing something wrong (although I have followed the directions to a T, or so I thought) since
I have still not received any extra 8%, which would have amounted to another $200+ in eBay bucks!!!

No worries though, 2% is still fine and the purchases I made are still making me happy image
