Worth opening or selling

CoinCrazyPACoinCrazyPA Posts: 2,899 ✭✭✭✭
I picked up some Govt sealed 1968 and 1969-S Proof sets and was thinking about opening them to see if there are any high grade deep cameos, or RPM, doubled die coins in them. I do this often for some reason, I used to collect baseball cards and unopened boxes had a premium on them. I feel the same about these boxes. I just cannot get the nerve to dive in from time to time. What would you do? Dive in or sell?

They sell for $5-6 each... if they're individual sets, in the blue box, outside of the mailing box. If they're in the mailing box, they sell for $12-15 each.

I bought them to go through them and look for reason in the OP. But I end up never sending them in if I find something good. All Registered tape postal stamps are good. These are fresh to the market sets. Actually I have I never sent in the coins to be graded. I always say I will get to it and never do. One of these days I guess. The 1968-S is 10 sets and the 1969 is 20 sets.

Edited: The silver half is over $6 now.

Open them. It will be fun for you even if you don't find the Holy Grail and no large financial loss. There is however a small chance of a nice gain. If you find nothing, that's ok, you will have had fun anyway...and you WILL KNOW.

If you do not open them and you sell them, you will always wonder...and the financial gain will not be that great.

    Just open them, geez.
