Depends upon the deal. If it looks good, I might, but ... in this market, it would be a decision that would need to be weighed carefully.

If it's something I've wanted for a long time (1796/97 half, 1804, 23 or 27 quarter etc) I might jump without looking back. But I'm not sure I can carry that much silver in my car!

Definitely considering it. It's tough to actually pull the trigger and offload 100 - 200 oz of silver though : I did sell a bit to buy a nice AU 1876-S Trade Dollar though. image

I have my eye on a coin in the next Heritage auction. Will sell some silver to help fund it.

I think I went backwards last night - I bought a little silver coin (key-date) for 800x melt value imageimage

But to answer your question, I would definitely trade in my no-value (except for melt) silver for Valuable Key Date Coinage!

I am starting to seriously consider this whole idea. My washington quarter set needs some new additions, mainly the 32 D & S. I just hope that I can find the ones that I like if I decide to go through with it.

Have sold all but very little junk silver and have purchased a few nice coins that I had been wanting. It`s like I got those coins for "free" as the silver was just sitting around with no purpose in my collection. I am gonna start narrowing my collection down and concentrating on a few certain areas instead of having a mass of coins.
It`s funny because I have been looking to add a MS67 Morgan too image
I also love the Key Dates so any of those would fit in nice image
DO IT, you`ll be happy you did. image

Nope. I'm looking out another 1-1/2 - 3 yrs or more. Even with a summer silver pullback that will be history come end of year and into 2012. The key date will still be priced the same
but silver should be considerably higher. When world money flows are looking at key dates, then I'm in. Trading bullionesque silver for a key date also triggers a taxable event...an immediate and significant hit.....unless you're one of those holdouts from January 1980 that "everyone" talks about that paid $47-$50/oz for your silver.....image

Already did...with my father's blessing, I dumped quite a bit of my grandfather's common date stuff and picked up some nice higher end coins to fill some long empty holes!

I'm hoping to use gains to get a '62/'63 St Gaudens (or at least cover the majority of one) - it's all unrealized at this point image

Totally, especially something gold image That gold/silver ratio is just getting way way too low, seems like either silver is going to crash or gold is going to jump. So if I would be selling silver, I'd at least want to be buying something gold just in case silver doesn't go down.

One MIGHT argue that a majority of people saying they've been selling silver (to buy other stuff) may indicate at least a short term market top...but what do I know?
  • The longer you hold your bullion the higher prices get and the better the grade of key date coin you'll be able to swap it for. Bullion prices have a long way to go on the up side.

I dunno but we just found several pounds of Gorham Sterling Flatware in stuff we took out of my motherin laws house....and while NOT going for a key date, or any coin....since its my wifes....we have our landscaper coming over tomorrow afternoon and we will be doing some home improvements. I love it when your yard looks like a fairway at Augusta.....

Just don't trade your silver bullion for a fake key date coin in a fake slab. That's a lose-lose.
