  • Well big bucks I'm not sure but for the sample collector it is the grail so to speak. The second
style of these holders held some proof graded coins , those also are scarce. Another is the "Doily"
slab which fetches high prices. I have been thinking about collecting these one day and with prices
like that I better hurry up and start. hehe

I kinda would like to know what your Morgan $ sample slab would bring on ebay.
If I had seen that slab at the show before you, I would have snapped it up in a heartbeat.

Whoa! I would have figured on a winning bid of about $90 or $100 myself.

I found one of them about 20 years ago for $5 and also obtained a 2nd one from wingsrule's fabulous collection.

I believe there has to be at least 6 or more of these laying around, undiscovered.

What might be even MORE interesting would be the same generation PCGS 2 (rattler) sample dime labeled 1964-D but which has a P mint in the slab????????

    Lakes:

The seller requested $1.35 for s&h. That indicates to me that he was not expecting more than $50 or so???

Sometimes incredible prices like these becomes the new real prices on these different numismatic items, sometimes they are just an aberration. Time will tell.

By the way Bochiman's son birthday party sample slab is special to me. It is awesome!

No, and I did not even have to look at the link or image. image
  • Whatever, I am up to 9 NGC black slabs now, all unknown and am getting ready to say forget it and sell them and buy some real coins, same with the PCGS MS-67 unattributed type B reverse Washie, pop 4 or at least it was and he one I got in a lot was a type B. So much specialized such I know there are buyers out there, just waiting on those right classic head C,D, and O gold coins to show up then gone. Someone here collects the high grade Washington Type B's and I know 2 or more wan t the NGC black slabbed coins, is it time?

How does the one that sold compare to say this one? Is there really that much more interest in the paper insert?

Well, at least two folks thought it was worth $400 to them.

Whether or not thats a sustainable price means nothing to these two folks since the winning bidder, I'd bet, bid way more than $405.
