"Details" designation.

What would be the price difference in a coin that grades "XF DETAILS" vs. XF etc...? Is there a protocol you guys follow to determine this? Just curious. Thanks in advance!

It really depends on the coin!

Generally speaking you loose at least 1/2 it's value maybe more. If you were talking 1964 quarter then 99% of it's numismatic value is gone and a 1838 quarter around 60% to 70%. If it's a light cleaning and retains a good look then less.
It is not that life is short, but that you are dead for so very long.

"Details" and "Net" both mean the same thing to me: Pass, ignore, move along, look for a problem-free example. (Most of the time it means "melt" too.) This may be harsh, but that's my reaction.
    When in doubt, don't.

image For me value can be as low as 10% of list as I do not want them in my collection. Only use I could ever see for them is in the ultra rarities and I have faced the fact that I cannot afford those.

I don't even look at "details" coins.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

There is no set percentage... we regularly see from 15%-40% depending on the issue with the coin, how popular it is, whether a keydate, etc.

The market is not that liquid for these type of coins.

It's much more tolerable with key/rare dates. I have 5 problem coins in my collection. All of them are 1793 cents.
