    I don't know.

Looks like a depression of some sort. Whats the reverse look like?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Strike thru error. Looks to have been a large grease blob.

    The 1983 looks like PMD.

actually the weak strike around the obverse edge of the 1983 lends credence to it being a mint-produced error......i would be more suspect of the 1971-D if i knew only one was PMD

Filled die. It's really not grease as commonly called, but metal filings and dirt. It tends to collect in the same area of the die, so seeing similar
voids in different year coins is not unusual.

Russ has got the "Dot Heads" you have the "Dent Heads" The 71-D looks like it came from the mint struck as is with a vertical void over Jacks head. The 83-P There is a lot more going on than meets the eye. The area effected is contained through the same area of the face, but the area seem to be more disturbed along with the fact that lettering around the rim is flat and and is also distorted.

The 71-D could very well be a struck through grease while the 83-P then I dosed off, see below

Here's the 71-D. 83 is too worn to see anything on it.
