~~~I *Knew* it was getting close...and it showed up and I bagged it! Feuchtwanger Cent 3B....

The 3B is one of the more difficult varities of the Feuchtwanger cent, and I certainly feel the rarity scales are dead wrong when they can R3. This is the very first one Ive seen on ebay (aside frome the misattributed one last week) in a year.
The funny thing is....for a year, yeah, this variety was out there but in my searches at shows, dealer inventories, auctions, ebay...none had came up. But, (here it gets weird) I had a feeling, a real feeling that 'one was getting close'. I even wanted at one time to make that post on the testing forum...just to 'come back to it' if indeed it happend.
And yes too funny it did happen! I dont know if anyones noticed but a whole string of NGC feuchtwanger cents is up there, looks like a common submission. None in high grades, but so far....Ive seen TWO of these pieces which were misattributed by NGC (actually one by NCS). One was a 3B, NCS, which was a 3E. The other, was a 3G which actually is a 6G. I emailed the seller TWO times and did not get a reply, not did he alter the auction. Oh well. I hope no one here was a bidder on the 3G (misattributed 6G) for there is a 'no return' stated.
goes to show you, if you are looking varieties on these do NOT just go by the label! Now we see that these two misattributions do really affect the overall pops since only four 3Bs have been certified by NGC and now we see one is wrong. No doubt a similar situation on the other one. Compare the blown up image on the screen with diagnostics from a web archive or one of my postings.
So no pictures yet, anyone else having trouble downloading and playing with "ART." extensions? But feel free to peruse the auction and gulp at the high price I paid for a VF Coin.
This 3B though...Im really thinking this is more like an R5+ coin, and once again we must add in the value of problem free ngc plastic for a 174 year old circulated coin. Just to have avoided those nasty pin scratches on the reverse that are seen on SO many of these...people trying to figure out if it was silver or what it was....

I just looked over Alan Fishers HTT site and here is what he adds in reference to the 3B
BTW the strange thing about this reverse is that it is nearly lacking in dentils! Thats not excessive wear you see on the reverse, thats the die.
HT 268 Variety 3-B, Low 120 3-B.
Rated R3 by Rulau and R4 by Koutsoures – still we can find only one appearance in the large Hard Times Sales of the past 25 years.

the diagnostic on the B reverse, among others, is that the stems on the wreath end in "claws". Also, the dentils are nearly invisible. This reverse, along with "A" seem to be consistantly rotated to keep the ONE CENT along the lines of the eagles body, no doubt for metal flow...

I DO wish PCGS would attribute these pieces since at this point getting the series close to completion I have to make some decisions. When I slab this set its going to be done right, with pedigrees stickers smiley faces etc etc...
Im certain there are undiscovered varieties out there yet. A few of these, the 3C and 4F are know only from a mere few pieces. Whos to say a new die combo wont turn up someday? Or, maybe an entirely new reverse, with a subtle change in the berry or leaf positions? could CERTAINLY happen. There is a lot of unexplored ground with these pieces.
