2006 SAE 20th Annv sets

were $100 when issued.....and that was quite a premium (bullion SAEs were ~$8-10 each at the time...proofs were just under $30 if I recall).

Now, silver content for them is $43*3=$129. Wow!

I was talking to a friend about the 5oz ATB pucks and the conversation ended up on this and I realized that they passed the issue price, just on bullion (of course, in their heyday, the graded examples hit super highs back then). Still, for raw sets, just bullion even, this amazes me.....I haven't been back into coins THAT long, and I don't remember the 80s for coins/bullion, so for me, this is a first.....

The GAE, 20th annv set was $2400 if I recall. That was 3 oz of gold. Now, it is ~$4424 (give or take) just for the bullion. Wow!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I had the same thoughts yesterday Boichman!

I was a reminiscing/ruminating about the good old days, 2006-2008, and the now fond memories I have of the Anniv. Sets.

Many were debating the merit of spending $33 and ounce for the sets, they quickly rose and fell, now, we are in green PM pastures.

I still hear some debating the merit of the ATB's. Wow. This is better than 2006 in that it is lower mintage, lower spot pricing, and even more mania!

But items like the Silver and Gold 20th Anniv. sets have not really moved in price at all, despite the intrinsic value increasing significantly.

  • Due, in part not so much as the value of gold and silver have skyrocketed but rather the dollar has tumbled in purchasing power.
  • What is the best way to maximize resale value? I've heard the ASEs command a much better price if the box and COA is included. But does that apply only to single ASEs, and not sets? Is it better to sell it as a set, or as singles?

Nope, they haven't, but they are still cool, from a collector's POV, I believe.
I still have an unopened box of 5 sets, 1 unopened box with 1 set, a graded set (PCGS FS 69), and a few raw.
I like 'em. Particularly the reverse proof.
I made enough off the other sets I bought that these are all free and clear.

I agree. The reverse proofs are very attractive coins and seem undervalued/under-appreciated at these levels in my opinion.
