Why Doesn't PCGS Render Status of Submission?

I submitted coins well over a month ago to PCGS and all I can track is "Received." I use NCG and they'll tell me that my coins are received, scheduled for grading and so on but PCGS doesn't even need to have submission tracking. I know PCGS ranks a "little" higher in the grading companies than NCG but sheesh, can't they live up to their website? I'll eventually have my coins returned but will never know when they go into grading, only that they were shipped and then I can research the grades.

I don't think they have ever done what your asking for and have never offered that service. How much more would you be willing to pay to have it done that way?

While PCGS doesn't give you the status, it doesnt really matter. Something can sit in quality control for several days at NGC. Also PCGS posts grades before the coins ship whereas NGC won't say until the coins are shipped.

I kind of agree with Juan, the informative video shows the grader evaluating the coin, and entering "data" into a computer.
If the coins are tracked through the process, then there should be a way to post that tracking data. If this can be done at little
cost (i.e. reformatting the submissions page) then it could be a good bone to throw to submitters. If their is higher cost,
then maybe a "service level" offering. But the first question should not always be "How much are you willing to pay for that"

They don't even know themselves where it is in the process until it sits in shipping for a week and then you call and send a couple of emails to get it sent out half of the time. You can do that when you have a monopoly or oligarchy. These grading companies can do so much better in my opinion.

Actually many moons ago you could call PCGS and they would tell you what stage of grading your coins were in. This was several years ago. I think the info is there in their system but it probably took too much time with people calling wanting to know the stage of the grading process their coins were in all the time?

However if it was computerized and made available to the submitter on-line it shouldn't take any more time?

How about it Don,,,,, can we get this done? You know us "Coin Nerds" are a very impatient bunch image

Hmmmm. It's cheaper ATS yet "they" provide it.

Its actually a simple question: Why doesn't PCGS provide more in depth tracking of submissions? A simple "Scheduled for grading" might suffice. Or perhaps, scheduled for photographing then scheduled for grading.

  • I found that mine would sit as "received" for many days, then suddenly they were
"scheduled," "graded," "in QA,", and "shipped" ... all on the same day. This is hardly
    useful.

Personally, what I would find more useful, would be to find out when the expect my
coins to move from "received" into an actual queue where things happen. For
example, 50 percent, 25 percent, 10 percent ... OR 2 million coins ahead of yours,
1 million coins ahead of yours, 500,000 coins ahead of yours ...

    Thanks,

I feel your pain, as I've got my collector's club platinum eight, plus the quarterly special, both pending, and I've got some of my best coins in the latter. But, if putting in status updates on tens of thousands of coins per month adds extra days to the turnaround time, I'll stick with the suspense. At least the "services" section of the PCGS website gives estimated turnaround times, so I'll know roughly when to start looking for results.

But, being obsessive/compulsive, I'll check daily anyway, starting maybe a week from now.

I just like to be able to see that my submission was received and checked in, which the current system does just fine.

I dont have any particular need to track it as it goes through each step of the grading process.
