Cheerios dollar up for auction

Check out the fourth picture in this listing and tell me if you see a possible fingerprint behind Sackie's head. If it is that is most unfortuneate, not to mention the unattractive spotting or toning on the coin.

    Not sure what that is... but the second and third photos are the SecurePlus images. That coin has a lot of stains... maybe from being stored in the cereal?

    My guess would be that it is a "waterspot." You may remember that when Sackies first came out in 2000 they had a lot of trouble with spotting on the manganese-brass alloy. They eventually solved the problem, but the Cheerios dollars were struck in October of 1999.

    I don't find it ugly, but it is what it is.

    I looked up in CoinFacts the population of these. I'm surprised there are still under 100 attributed and graded. Where are the other 5,400 ?

    They were released to the general public in boxes of Cheerios cereal in 2000. They weren't identified by the numismatic community until February, 2005.
