Tough Seated Newp

MoldnutMoldnut Posts: 3,113 ✭✭✭✭
A few years back I was the under bidder on an 1866-S in a NGC holder and I was never able to find another one. Well, at least not at the price I was willing to pay. Now I have finally added one in a PCGS holder at a price lower than I originally bid all those years ago. This example does show strong details for the grade but does not have the crusty look of the one I bid on a few years back. Oh well!
As some of you may know, this is the first year the SF mint used the small mintmark on the quarter after using that cool oversize "S". I think that was kind of a bummer, as the large "S" really made the 1855- 1865 San Francisco coins stand out as kind of an oddity.

YEAH...that's what I'm talking about baby!!! Did it get an F12?

It's not crusty...but it's a decent grade. You might have to let me know where you're digging up all these cool coins. I've had a super difficult time finding the 1864-S through 1867-S (Philly or San Fran) and the 1848-1852-O. Everyone wants double, triple quadruple+++ whatever the price guides are...I understand overpaying...but it's a bit rediculous if the guides are off by a whole order of magnitude!

Thanks Billet7, its a very tough coin to find in a problem free holder,as tough or tougher than the 64-S.

Great coin and if you want quality coins you have to pay up. If I am offered the right coin I will pay up. Throw the sheets out when it comes to original coins. Really throw them out when you want original rare coins.

Very nice seated coin and an "S" mint. In those years of dimes it's the Philly mint coins that are tuff and $$$.
