I won a bet but don't feel that good about it!

Recently my good friend tells me he has been buying a lot of
coins from a big ebayer.
I am not going to mention names but they are from the great south and operate out of texas. Well I told my friend that I also see there auctions and I have never bid on any of there raw coins and I thought they where junk sellers. He gets offended and offers me a bet. He would submit his last purchase of nine coins and everyone that graded I would pay for and everyone that didn't he would pay me double the cost of submission. I took the bet without even looking at the coins. Three out of nine graded!!
Heres the telling part five where graded genuine 91.
I am in my mid 50's and we were in cub scouts together
he not just a friend he's a lifelong friend so I letting him off
the hook this time he feels bad enough.

I had a guy doing the same thing from the same crownd, I told him not a single coin he purchased from them would holder. Sure enough, all bagged(genuine)

HOLY COW! I always had my doubts but I guess this confirms it. I bought one coin from them and was very happy with the purchase since it was a PCGS slabbed coin...and I got it wayyy cheap. RAW - I would never ever ever buy from them!

GSC uses stock photos and does not send the coin pictured in an auction for raw coins.

After watching Iowa Commems for a while I noticed the same coin offered by GSC over and over.

Like This Still the same pic from a year ago.

I emailed GSC and asked why the same coin and pic was re-listed, didn't it sell? Reply was the previous coin was sold but another is available, in fact, I could buy it for 95 bucks right now as I recall.

The same pic is always up on feebay for a raw Iowa Commem from GSC, you won't get the coin pictured if you win.

I love that they put their logo in the image that's displayed with the auction title. That way I can skip right over it without thinking twice.

Or you can just set up an Advanced Search to exclude them (and others) so they don't even waste
screen space.

Maybe gently tell your friend that if he wants certified coins, he should buy them already certified--and if a coin is raw and in high grade, there is probably a reason.

Everyones entitled to there mistakes its part of the process
you can bet he is already reexamining his approach.
He is a pretty smart guy and he is a little smarter today.

The one PCGS graded coin that I bought from them, I returned. They promptly refunded 100% of my purchase price.

after 46,000+ feedbacks they are still at 100%. I think that I would at least email them and tell them about my submissions and see what they might say.

Since i live close to the store, I have dropped by to see the coins on display--up close, the coins look quite different from images. One poster on these boards thought i was them, since the same small town, I wanted to ensure him I was not.

I hope that your friend learns a lesson, it could have been much worse. When I first started with coins again I bought a "gem" piece raw from them that came back a 58. They did take the piece back, and I was through dealing with them(and raw coins).
I don't know how they shoot their pics, but they are quite misleading.

Teva, glad to hear your friend is a pretty smart guy. I'm constantly amazed how so many buy raw only to submit to PCGS. Buy 'em slabbed if that's what you want. Your friend's 1904 5C US PR62 must be rough, never seen a 5C Lib. Proof in 62 I'd want, especially when nice 63's are not much $s. I hope he listens more to you now.

Just a quick update my partner received a full refund plus grading fee's yesterday. I thought my partner was pushing things asking for the grading fees but he was made whole so good for him.

How did that happen? I know they offer a 7 day money back guarantee, but didn't it take longer than that to get they coins shipped, graded and shipped back to your friend?

So how many coins in total has your friend purchased from this dealer? 3 for 9 is costly, but I shutter thinking this might be the tip of the iceburg.

I have to say this:

I have sent coins to PCGS that came back 91 questionable color only to be sent in by someone else to get holdered by PCGS.

sometime it has to be sent in more that once... just a fact!

They often have coins listed with descriptions such as "SOLID GEM BU" and frankly, it shouldn't take much numismatist experience to see what they are...and that is offering coins I would not buy.
