Goodacre Presentation Dollars

Anybody take note of the new slab packaging for the Glenna Goodacre Presentation Sacagawea's article in the latest Coin World?

Evidently the last of these Presentation coins, which had been slabbed by ICG through Tebo Coins, were acquired by Jeff Garrett, out of Kentucky, who had them all regraded and slabbed with special PCGS inserts designed by Miles Standish and signed by Philip N. Diehl.

For Sacagawea Collectors, this adds yet another variation to the Glenna Goodacre Sac's.

In this case, don't even bother collecting the coin. There are 5,000 of those things. image

The Goodacre coins were pretty cool, IMO. Most of the pieces I have seen qualified as
DMPL, something that is hard to find in the Sacagawea series. And I love the way the
artist turned a $5000 "prize" for the winning design into MUCH more.

Are all 5000 "out" in the market now? I had heard that Glenna Goodacre had only disposed
of half of them, keeping the other 2500 coins for a future purpose.

A couple months ago, the pops increased substantially... PCGS alone has graded 2,640 of them.

The article relates that she kept 2,000 of the ICG coins and gave out less than couple dozen or so to family members.

This last batch should represent the last of the 5,000 originally given to her as payment for the Sacagawea Dollar Design.

Yes, there are 5,000 of them out there but that number doesn't in any way detract from the Heritage of the coin or the story behind it which is why some folks collect in the first place.

I'll be curious as to how much this new slab will be selling for.

This would have been impossible except for the cooperation of the U. S. Mint, which created the "presentation finish" dollars exclusively for Ms. Goodacre. This had never been done before and has not been done since. Did any of the designers of the state quarters get their design fee in specially made quarters? No.

This is why I refer to the "presentation finish" dollars as a "sweetheart deal" for Ms. Goodacre. And why I refused to buy one when they came out, refuse to own one and won't handle them either.

I just purchased a type 1 in an icg holder sp69. From what I have read from the articles on smalldollars.com that the type 1 is more rare but it is vague on how rare.

So any new new news on the rarity of the various types?

Should I leave it in the icg plastic or try to get into ngc or pcgs plastic?

I'd like one for our collection but since I don't see paying more than $150-$200 of "fun money", and given where the current prices are, we won't get one.
So, that money goes to other things.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
