  • Melt value is at this time $5.50 per coin.

If you can buy them at $4.50-$5 it would seem like a good price but why buy 40%??

90% is far more marketable with tighter spread.

Having found a roll of 40% halves in my weekly roll search endeavors, I was amazed how far back of spot the B&M's pay. They flat out told me they hate 40%. Stick with 90% (as advised above) or try to buy around 8.25X...

I would buy them for 9.25 per dollar.

I have been watching the discount on 40% for a while.

I know absolutely nothing about silver refining, but it seems at this kind of discounts it would be profitable to send the 40% to a refiner.

Is this happening? And if so is it happening on a large scale?
  • You will easily find buyers at 10x plus shipping right now.

I am buying at that level, in fact, so there's a buyer right here image

And that is why 40% trades so far back of spot.

as silver rises so do war nickels and 40%

i wouldn't advise someone to get into them now.

B/M's don't like them for good reasons.

I threw 43 of them up on eBay just this week. Was getting quotes of 8X from people, and I saw that people were paying 10X, so even with the fees, I come out ahead

40% isn't really that far back. not very long ago when dealers were paying about $22 for 90% i was able to get almost $10 for Ike Dollars. if you do the math $9.70 was right on the money. you get less because it is less.

I can't base it on fact or statistics ........, but I think a very small percentage of silver bullion coins actually get sent to the smelters
