Andy was almost right

tradedollarnuttradedollarnut Posts: 20,200 ✭✭✭✭✭
About a year ago, he said I'd give up on trying to complete a second set of seated dollars by yearend. He was almost right - I just gave up now [he owes me a Starbucks over the extra few months tho! lol]. Everytime I looked at them, I remembered the coin in the original set and instead of appreciating what I have, I missed what I had. I'd rather spend the funds on great early type than work on something that I wasn't appreciating.

I'm sorry to hear that but I'm glad you've decided to send that second-rate Trade Dollar set to my children... I'll PM you with the mailing address. image

I was toying with selling it before the deal, but that sealed it.

" I'd rather spend the funds on great early type "

    That is indeed rarified air........

But I applaud your efforts on both the sets you have put together in the past and now this new most challenging endeavor....image

Bruce - there are many collectors who appreciate your decision! image

But in all honesty, I will still be asking you plenty of really dumbbbb questions as we upgrade our set. image

I know Laura was heartbroken she could not finish the set. By the looks of what she is listing, it was some set.

    Maybe one day.

Do you think you'd fell better about your second shot at another set if you had worked on a duplicate set at the same time image

I'm just asking as I know a lot of collectors that have duplicate and triplicate sets that are formed from examples they upgraded in their primary set.

I hope my question makes some sort of sense image

Seated Dollars were never my primary set - they were the logical next step after I did the trade dollars and Gobrechts in magnificent fashion. I could see doing multiple sets of the trade dollars as they are my passion, but not really of seated dollars.

Fully understandable as if your not passionate about the endeavor I'm surprised you didn't run out of steam earlier.

Don't get me wrong - I was completely passionate about the main set. I love a challenge and nobody had ever completed a seated dollar set in completely uncirculated condition - let alone in magnificent gem condition! But nowhere near as passionate on the second set.

hey Bruce did that deal have anything to do with you wanting that catalog?

I held that one for years, for the life of me I cant find it and I have not heard back
    from her.

I am still looking though, unless you dont need it. I have alot of stuff to go thru.

No - there was a coin I was trying to compare the strike to that coin. Don't need the catalog anymore - but thanks!

It also couldn't hurt your cash position either! Especially in a softening market.
There is no "AT" or "NT". We only have "market acceptable" or "not market acceptable.

Absolutely nothing about the top end of the coin market is softening.

Hey, everyone here knows She, Who Must Not Be Named has a bigger set than most. And Dave, I know you and she share a fascination with 1939D 10c in 68FB (or better).

You point is made. While some may doubt your knowledge based on your low numbers of posts and lack of assertiveness, the word is that you have excellent instincts. The next time you two have lunch maybe She'll let you fondle a few True-Views if you offer to pay.
