GROUP RIP: 1975 OPC Wax Baseball - A couple GRADES Posted.. MORE Grades 3/24!

Just wondering if these came from this wax run ? Did anyone ask Steve ?

    75 opc Brett rookie

    75 opc Nolan Ryan
  • Options
With pristine fronts, and 95/5 backs, what does this do to the grade on 75 OPCs ? No one else is talking about the backs. Backs wreak havoc on grading too correct ?

Usually, cards that are worse than 90/10 on the back, but not miscut (100/0 or worse) get the OC qualifier.

Looks like the Champion card fits that exact description, so assuming there's nothing wrong with the front, it will be graded and assigned a number as if the centering on the back weren't an issue. Then it will get slapped with the qualifier.

Matlock will easily make it within the 90/10 requirement, so all that will do is knock it down from a 10 to a 9.

no stars yet, I'm in for box 2!

Is it possible to lock that final box down? I'm in for another ten image

I'm watching all the fun and I think I'll join in on the action if everyone goes for a 2nd box!
Interested in any Favre stuff you have to offer. image

So here are my hits from two packs. The Ryan is OC and the two bottom corners are soft image The Yaz looks to be diamond cut and has a couple of chips on the edges. It was quite a thrill for my first group rip and still am happy with what I got.

And my wife didn't buy the fact that they were 10 cent packs...

I don't think the Yaz is all that diamond cut. I just brought it into Photoshop and it's seems pretty square. I'd give it a shot! The right edge may hurt the grade a little though.

Figures that Ryan is probably the worst t/b centering in the entire box. Nice haul anyway!

Maybe I will take another look at the Yaz. I cried a little when I saw the Ryan was the worst T/B centering of all the cards. But, I think it is only because I saw all of the beautiful centering in the previous cards scanned and got my hopes up.

jwgators, great first group rip! A solid Nolan Ryan although the thought that it could have been like the majority....oh my!

Sean, I haven't received mine yet, hopefully Thursday when I get a chance to stop at the Post Office

Guys... I sent Steve another email thanking him once more for allowing us to do this rip, and at the same time letting him know thus far its been a huge success.
I also let him know there's a STRONG possibility that we'll be doing another box break.

YES... he does have another one of these boxes! I will gladly lead box break #2... I will put something together either today or tomorrow!

It took less than 24 hours to sell out the the 48 packs the first time. I gotta believe this time around it will go even faster!
With that said, I don't want to bite off more than we can chew! In other words, I'd rather stick to just 1 more box (at a time.)
I did not ask how many more boxes Steve has.... but I can't imagine he has a shelf full of these babies.

Again, Keep your eyes peeled for Group Rip #2 for the 1975 OPC Wax either today or tomorrow!

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

Gator, that Ryan is a beauty even with the o/c. Looks like the bottom right corner, and maybe the edge on the bottom left might keep it from being a 9 oc.

I am very happy with it. The bottom right corner will definitely hold it back. Maybe I will submit it just to have it in a slab. image

Not to be a tease guys BUT... I just got confirmation from Steve that we will be able to do (2) more boxes in what will be group rip #2!

I've written down requests for the next rip so far... everyone else, hang tight please! I'll put it together here shortly.
I have a day-gig that's suffering at the moment. image Keeping up with this is far more interesting!

SO... we'll have 96 packs to do next time! Good thing as about 40 of them are already spoken for!!!

STAY TUNED! ... it will be a sept. thread.

too bad the Ryan has a crease that runs through 3/4 of the card on the front right through his face and the MVP card has a dinged left edge.

Not every card is possible to pull out of one box.

48 packs x 8 cards per pack = 384 total cards, there are 660 cards in the set.
