who is also a png member, this seller has mostly problem coins for sale. I know he puts up good pictures,but there is no mention of problems,just a stated grade which is pretty generous in my opinion. If you listened to the pr from the png, you would think you had a better chance with a png dealer. You could get the same coins he is selling from the big coinworld advertisers,maybe better. If the png really was concerned with the collecting public,or the integrity of the png,they would boot dealers like him out. I did a search here and from what I have read he is not highly regarded. I also have no issue with selling problem coins,but they should be noted and priced lower,his are neither.

I don't know who you're alluding to, but I would agree with that statement.

it's going to be hard to really discuss this without knowing who you are talking about

and how do you know they are problem coins? if he/she doesnt disclose this are you able to tell from the pic? are the coins slabbed and that is how you know they are problem coins? (in which event i would consider his/her pics of the label the disclosure)

I agree with half that statement. Known problems should be noted, but on the other hand, the seller is certainly within his rights to ask what he wants for the coins.

what I said was my opinion of how a problem coin sould be sold. He certainly has the right to ask for whatever he wants,I certainly dont want to ever stand in the way of capitalism.

The seller has been mentioned here before. From old personal experience I would say the coins pictured did not always reflect on what you received.

Edited: I have confused this seller with another from dealings long ago that gets mentioned here on occasion. I have purchased from FT before and as I recall everything was fine. My bad

Some are clearly visable, (scratches large marks ect). some I can tell from my experience,look improperly cleaned one was deeply toned and had some corrosion underneath. The coins I was looking at were not slabbed, and wont be by pcgs or ngc,at least not in problem free holders.

png has not found a way to stall coin doctoring, might be a while before they can enforce sales ethics in addition to everything else. We can all hope though

Well, I bought from fairtraderz once or twice, as I recall, and as far as I can remember, the deal(s) went just fine, with no problems.

This may be irrelevant since I think that was back in my early Registry days, so they were probably PCGS-slabbed coins.

Haven't followed him/them in recent years.

A lot of his slabbed coins are PCGS Genuine, NCS, NGC Details and ANACS Details... shouldn't that give you a little insight into his raw coins?

Have been buying from him for a long time and always got what I purchased at the price listed.
If you don't want problem coins don't buy them.
I buy PCGS graded coins.
And for a fact I really don't care what enybody belongs to.

Poor fairtraderz. He listed lots of 100 war nickels for $18.75 instead of $187.50 (wrong decimal point placement). At least 4 people neg'd him for the honest mistake. What did these buyers think? That some dealer is going to sell war nickels for $0.19 apiece?!!

Maybe I'm confusing two different dealers. I thought Fairtraderzs was a fairly large organization. Their eBay store had two guys pictured on the home page, a white guy and a black guy, and they had a 1-800 number and all that. I have bought a few coins from them in the past, nothing really expensive, and don't recall any problems with the coins.

c'mon GoldenEye, you know many of these places only have marginal quality photos, at best. Good? pffft. Some photos, you can tell, are out to hide problems. That bothers me.

That said, I've bought from the outfit in question a time or two, too.

...and I'd consider my ebay pics only slightly better than marginal, myself. There are several outfits, though, who step up to the plate when it comes to putting up nice photos. Kudos to them.

I did not buy any,that was not the point of the post. Just because you buy pcgs coins does not mean you are not buying problem coins. I did not ask if anybody cared or not,I was more interested in peoples feedback regarding the conduct of png members vs its code of ethics.

This dealer works at the national level and certainly knows the material they deal in quite well. Last time I waded through their eBay auctions there were lots of expensive
slabbed coins. But I also realized I was probably not going to be able to find any sleepers among their offerings. They buy right, and sell accordingly to make a profit.

Bought from him in the past... he buys ANACS details graded slabs and cracks them out to resell as raw problem free coins. I bought the coins for the VAMs, not to get a problem-free coin and paid a low enough price that it did not matter to me that there was a scratch or that it was cleaned.

his pictures are plenty good enough to see what he is selling, do you have proof that he buys problem coins and cracks them out ? and if he does is that a crime ? ive never seen any of his auction where he mentions the words "problem free" some of the coins he sells are sometimes very difficult to find problem free, his pics are good enough if you take the time to look at them. ive purchased quite a few coins from him and never had an issue. if you dont like what he sells, then dont buy anything. the only code of ethics i care about is my own ... i buy what i like, without needing anyone's approval

I'm 2 for 4 on raw purchases. It should have been 3/4 but one came back grafitti for a tiny staple scratch. Sometimes there is a third photo with the coin in a flip marked in marker with the problem noted. Pictures are better than most and I have to say that they've been very fair when I called them 2x.

He has been a buyer of some of my problem ANACS certified coins, which I have then seen for sale by him as problem free raw examples.

Since grading is only an opinion, I do not have a problem with what he does with the coins once he owns them - but the reason that I don't do the same is that I actually care. And I happened to strongly agree with ANACS opinion, in the case of those coins. If I hadn't, I would have done as I have many times before - cracked them out and submitted them to PCGS.

I have bought a few things from them. Only one pissed me off and I'm not sure it's fair to blame them. It was a 20c piece in an old ANACS slab. PCGS wouldn't cross it for questionable surfaces. I gave it an acetone bath. Grr...coin doctors. Below are the before and after pix.

They have been very fair about other matters. I bought an 1813 CBH with the understanding that I would return it if PCGS didn't cross it at a certain, slightly lower grade. It was nice in most ways but I felt it was a little overgraded. PCGS didn't bite, I returned it a month later and a full refund was promptly done.

I'm a little gun-shy with them but I'm not convinced they're deceitful.
