Any computer wizards here?

leothelyonleothelyon Posts: 8,492 ✭✭✭✭✭
Has to do with my Mozilla Firefox browser, viewing the pictures I have in my upload box here. It keeps opening those pictures with the Microsoft Office Picture Manager that's on my computer. It has always done that and I usually use Windows Internet Explorer to get the Properties to my pictures so I can post them here. Any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated.

you should be able to change the association in file types to have your jpegs opened by explorer instead of pic manager

    Try this:

In the browser click "tools" then "options" then click the "applications" icon on the top.

You should see a list of "content type" then on the right the application it will use.
If you highlight the application (right side) then it will have a pull down and one choice is "use other" then you can pick it.

From the list I'm not sure which one will do the pics but I think that's where you set it. Maybe someone knows which one to set??

Wow, I had this same problem for YEARS when using Firefox. My workaround was to go to the Testing Forum, make a post, attach the picture, post the reply, and then open the attachment so I could view the picture online and get the properties. Annoying and time consuming, to say the least.

I've since reverted to using IE because in the last few months Firefox (whatever incarnation of it I had on this 'puter) became increasingly unstable and crashed all the time.

Mind you, so does IE- this buggy old 'puter is on its last legs after six or seven years.

I'm glad to know that particular little Firefox anomaly wasn't just me, though.

Made exceptions for this website to the pop-up blocker and load images automatically in the Content section of Internet options but to no prevail. I know it has to be something simple. I'll give it a shot. It takes this old guy quite awhile to figure this stuff out.

Yeah, I tried that too, once upon a time. But never got much farther than that.

Good luck- I'll bet you can figure out a better solution than I came up with.

I just tried that, didn't work. Changed both .jpeg programs from Always ask to IE.

There's another problem I haven't mentioned, haven't been able to open IE all day. Had a Mediacom run me a new line to the telephone pole Thurs. but that can't be it.

But I need to make these changes in IE?

Well, I change the opens with... in the properties of a picture to IE and than Firefox....no go.

The window in CU after the upload box, it tries to open but reverts back to the file on my computer.

    1
Click the Windows Orb (Start button) in Windows 7 or Vista, then click "Default Programs." In Windows XP, click the "Start" button, then click "My Computer."

    2
Click "Associate a file type or protocol with a program" in Windows 7 and Vista. It may take a few moments to build the full list of file extensions recognized by your system. In Windows XP, click the "Tools" menu at the top of the window, then click "Folder Options." Click the "File Types" tab in the window that appears.

    3
Scroll down to the file extension that you would like to change. The most common file extensions for images are JPG, JPEG, BMP, GIF and PNG. You may wish to change the settings for all of these.

    4
Click the file extension that you have chosen, then click "Change Program" in Windows 7 and Vista, or "Change" in Windows XP. Internet Explorer may not be on the list of recommended programs, as it is not typically used to view images. Click the "Browse" button.

    5
Navigate to and double click "iexplore.exe." Generally, the program is located in C:Program FilesInternet Explorer. Click "OK."

    6
Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for each file extension that you would like to change the default viewer for, then close the window.

    7
Double click an image file with one of the extensions that you changed the default viewer for. It will open in Internet Explorer.
