I don't think anyone would give me $100 for this.

Don't you mean 20% back of guide rather than 20% of guide.
FWIW, I sold 3 common Morgan PCGS 65s at the Vegas show for $115 each. Just solid coins. Then I turned around and tried to buy some OGH similar 64s just for fun and was told they would be $100 ea. I balked a bit and the dealer just said he can sell them all day long at $129 on eBay. Frankly, I haven't quite seen that, but maybe he was right?

It's at $71.05 with a little over a hour to go now.
Edit to add....BTW if I read it right it has the second highest mintage of the series with only the 1921 higher.
<< <i>OK Jim has this MS64 1889 in a old seven diget holder that he calls a MS63 in the description that ends in a little while 1889 Morgan lets see where it ends.

The sellers description says this:
"Coin is overgraded , should be a 63 at best"
I don't think this should be the best coin to use as an eBay test of value for a 64
BTW a MS63 in the guide is listed at $48.00 so his decription is already being ignored.
Brain fart, yes back of guide or minus 20% of the guide price.

OK maybe I got a cheap one for my date set at $78.33 but I could not resist putting in a snipe with that description. And the 20 something % back of PCGS held in this case.
So far at the ANA show I've sold about 400 MS64's so I'm well aware of what they're currently worth.

<< <i>MS64's have been going up fast recently and are probably worth more than they should be but they aren't worth $100 yet.

Are you willing to share your experience in a rough dollar amount then? Seems on eBay the are around $80.
I'm more concerned with what they buy and sell for at local, regional, and major shows.
Most retail price guides are jacked up about 50% or so on more common material. I think it's to help ensure the dealers get their spread more easily. When it comes to
scarce material liked dated bust, barber, and seated, this thumbrule often falls apart. In some cases PCGS price guide could be a wholesale value. Depends on the coin
and grade. The more often a coin has traded, the better chance the listed price is fairly accurate.

The current high bid on CCE is $81 for untoned coins. However there is at least one company that has a slightly higher buy price.
That $81 bid is for white, unspotted and untoned PCGS and NGC examples. Holder generation type has no real effect on value.

These is a correct RETAIL price for a B&M store. Auctions and shows are wholesale venues.

Not when I can pick the same mint, year, grade, slab for around $55.
So if you can pick them up for 55.00 go for it !!!!
Edit to add they're paying 56.00 for 63's

<< <i>I'll tell you what pisses me off to no end. When I called to buy $10k worth of Gold back when it was $300/oz, the asshat convinced me to get Morgan dollars instead of gold. So I said ok but I was going to get a pile of MS64 Morgan dollars at around $50 each. He again convinced me to buy waste-of-time MS65 Morgan dollars which have mostly gone down in value instead of the MS64's.

That is a bummer for sure. Thing to always consider too, is when would you have sold that gold? Do not look at today's prices. Heck, if you bought at $300 and doubled your money at $600 you wouldn't have bailed? Then been upset that you bailed at $600! It is human nature. Even if you could say no way man, I would have held on to it until now, you still never know if you really would have when it was the real deal and your money was on the line.
they are not my coins and I will enjoy seeing him picked off. LOL

I was going to bite but looks like no more for sale! $15 shipping though, it just a turn off. Even if the total price is still a deal in my opinion.

<< <i>Collectors who have 63-66 generic Morgans they don't want to keep should strongly consider selling while there is still time.

Promoters have no influence on the price of silver. I believe these are more leveraged to the price of silver than some promoter

Spot price is a significant factor but promotion is the biggest influence on increasing prices.
Look at PCGS and NGC slabbed Saints and Libs for example. Gold has been rising but bids on those slabs have been stagnant if not decreasing slightly. They haven't been increasing because there is currently no promotion and therefore not a lot of interest. Today you can buy a PCGS slabbed MS65 Saint for $2250. They were going for a lot more than that when gold was at $1100.

Those a$$hat MS65 Morgans bottomed at around $75 about the same time gold was in the $300's. They tripled in that time, though will probably correct a bit right here. So not
really a bad place to be. There are a lot of coins that have lost most of their gains since 2003, never mind tripling in price. I wish all my coins were 3X their 2003 levels.

As of this morning I checked and back to $135 so give credit to PCGS for keeping it interesting on the Price Guide.
