I won't guess the date or time, but considering some posts to other threads, I will guess that the amazing deal involves a sum of $5M, one or more coins tracing back to the Mickley collection (perhaps even "THE coin"), with probably other "stellar" numismatists in the pedigree! image

Uh-roh - TDN's posting pattern is changing. Only 1 in the past 48 hours. Can I change my guess??

As a fellow Seahawks fan (basing that off your Seahawks superbowl comment), the answer is never (since we never win anything. ever.) With your 19999th post SM1 or one of the other moderators (refs) will call you for an infraction you didn't commit (holding). This will cost you all the glory that would have been heaped upon if you had completed your goal (winning the superbowl). Then you will be forced to give up the most important piece of your collection (guard) to someone in Minnesota in exchange for a whizzed 1971 Kennedy (Burleson). This will spiral you down into mediocrity ATS where you will reacquire your previous nickname forever 2001SacagaweaDollarNut (Sea Turkeys).

If you aren't a Seahawks fan, you'll be fine and I guess you will post your 20,000 on 4*2.4863*2011 ( thats 11:40 am ).

    Congrats when it happens.

I think that TDN does not want to part with the broken 1950 proof set, so he will never reach 20,000. That is m prediction. image

Well with 36 more posts to go at your average rate of 5.83 per day, odds are it might be around the the 24th of this month, but given that you have a boring life I'll add 2 days to this equation and say the 26th, around 7pm PST- give or take an hour.

    How do you figure?

Number of posts weren't limited. ("ohhhh - ok! I'll giveaway a rattler 1950 partial proof set - all but the half [I need that for my type set]. Winner is the person guessing closest [time & date] to when I make the 20,000th post.")

He posted in this thread at 4:40pm that he'd probably break the 20,000 mark.

An hour after that at 5:40 PM, I posted a guess.

Then followed that guess two minutes later at 5:42 PM with a time to occur that night since he only had 4 posts to go.

TDN then edited this thread Title an hour after my post at 6:47 PM to say, "Nice try - no more entries!" then madehis 20,000 post at 9:37 PM Pacific Time

    How could cheating have occured?

I was off by less than 24 hours...not bad considering I posted when the thread started.
  • tradedollarnuttradedollarnut Posts: 20,233 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm disallowing any entries after I started the "20,000 post" thread. It's my giveaway and I make the rules - it's not fair to people who guessed a week earlier.

So no entries after 4:40pm March 24th allowed. With those gone - who won?

So nice of you to post this rule "after" the fact Bruce. Nothing like makin em up as you go along right?

Sorry - not fair to others to allow guesses after the final thread is started. I'm sure if you think about it, you'll agree.

<< <i>Sorry - not fair to others to allow guesses after the final thread is started. I'm sure if you think about it, you'll agree. >>

Well, I've thought about it and I don't agree.

For whatever reasons, you've decided to tailor your give away after the fact and I personally find this tactic to be questionable in origin.

However, it is your giveaway and I suppose you can award the prize to whomever you choose. Whether they were closest or not.

    Whatever.

okkkk - I have no horse in this race. Why do you think I changed the title of this thread to "nice try - no more entries!"? Doesn't that give you a clue that your late posts weren't going to be allowed?

But, since you don't agree, what I'm going to do is donate $250 each in your name and the other winners name to the ANA young numismatists fund. That's the giveaway. And it's the last giveaway I'll ever do here.

What a silly end to a nice gesture. It was TDN's giveaway, his rules. If you don't like the game, don't play. No need to poison it and kill the fun for all. Anyway, TDN, changing the giveaway to be a donation to the YNF is cool. A nice way to support the future of the hobby.

  • So Lee peas on the parade (you did post after his edit) and now the one person Joe Lewis the winner, gets nothing for his timely guess, which he did well before TDN called it.

    I like TDN's gesture to support YN's

but smoe old folk- should pony up the diff, and make Joe Lewis whole (eh-Lee?)

BTW- TDN- I would have kept 1 Morgan in the pile- just for future posterity.
