I took a quick glance at the specs on dpreview.com, and it looks like it will work fairly well. Without using the macro mode, you can get 50 cm (20 in.) from your target, and you have a pretty long optical zoom available. You'll need a stable support, such as a tripod or copy stand, and use the self timer at 2 seconds to dampen shake from touching the camera. You probably won't use the longest end of the zoom range much for coins. If you do, have plenty of light and a very stable support. Keep the ISO set to 80 for the sharpest pictures.
Edit: The one that came up on dpreview.com is pink. If yours is pink and you can exchange it for a black or gray one, I would highly recommend doing so.
