1965-1970. Basically, if it has a silver edge and if it's not 1964, then there you have it.

1965 to 1970 - but the 1970's were only available in proof and mint sets. Some of the proof/mint set 1976 halves were 40% as well- they all have S mint mark.

Now I know why I never found a 1970 half when I was kid. Thanks for that info.

Someone should tell the guys in the Precious Metals board. I went around and around with them over a question about that some time ago.

LOL, i think you can tell the clad from 40% and obviously 64 Kennedy's apart just by stacking. BTW PM guys hate 40%, i am in the minority but do not advocate buying any now. Finding them or have someone dump a load on you is another story of course.
  • garrynotgarrynot Posts: 1,874 ✭✭✭

Yea I thought it was funny. I dont want to tick off any of the PM guys if they read these posts but as I recall, the only issue was that a person won an ebay auction for a bag of 100 percent silver Kennedy's. Maybe a dozen. He gets the half dollars and they are all 40% silver. Someone says "send them back" I said, why didnt you ask the seller what the dates were before you paid for them and avoid all that aggravation. "No. The seller is responsible for what he puts in his ad." I said, "Yea, but why not ask the seller what the dates are.... " So after going around like that I just gave up. I am an idiot. Someone start a poll and ask if I am an idiot.
