    to be a great coin design.

    Have there been 100 U.S. coin designs, even including patterns?

    If there HAVE been, I wouldn't think it would be many more than that. And, if that's the case, wouldn't a better title be "The 18 U.S. coin designs that didn't make the Top 100 List"?

    Does anyone know offhand how many there are/were?

    I didn't really think about how many actual coin designs the US has had. It might not be much more than 100. But there were 51 Classic commems counting the Norse.

    For Steve27 - I realize the US has had some bad designs but some are actually quite good, the Antietam for example or the Panama $50 Octaganal.

    Edited to add: I know the Norse is not a coin but a medal but still a great design.
    Collect for the love of the hobby, the beauty of the coins, and enjoy the ride.
