It could be fixed though. Send it to me and I'll replace the battery and the old silver coins with some spiffy new clad. Then it should run like new. And I'll run like a thief! ---- Kidding aside, congrats to the sharp-eyed wife.

Okay, so I got all inspired about this clock, and since my fiancee' and I had decided to visit one of the local antique malls, I figured that I might try to do the same thing.
Their circ Morgans were $32.95/ea. No luck there. A 2001 Proof set was $71.00 - not a chance. Then I saw it - a "collection" of coins mounted on a board in an oval configuration. Indian Penny. V-Nickel. Buffalo Nickel. No silver halves.
It had 3 quarters, all slick and polished up real good. 3 silver dimes and one War Nick. Total silver over $28.00 at melt. Price..............$20.00.
I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. I am such a wimp.
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
You should of went for it. Closer to $29 now in silver.
Try the flea markets and farmers markets next time. Antique markets are to upscale. My wife told me the guy she purchased the clock from did not even have teeth.
farmer's markets, flea markets, etc is all a gamble. you are just as likely to find a bargain as an overpriced coin... you have to know your prices to a tee
jmski you should have got the deal that was offered to you.
Tydye, your wife did well.
Today at the local mall, a jewelry store had some silver bars on one of their cases........price was $33/oz. I picked up the two JM 1 oz bars they had.
