Coin Sorter/Counter

I been buying a lot of pennies and the ones that I do not keep for myself. I hand count them into 1,000 Count bags to sell. Are there any good sorter you can buy that would help with the counting of the pennies? If so which ones.

aye yeah aye, one of my banks has one of those machines I dump the cents into and they do not charge me because I have an account there. I have about 800 lbs of the little devils now and recently stopped buying more and sifting through for coppers.

You could try a Coin Star machine.image

  • You could use a penny sorter or coin counting tray (check Amazon). A machine to automatically count them would be too expensive to use for counting pennies.

How about using a good scale.
Count out a 1000 in the same bags you're using then match that weight and toss in a few extras to be sure it's at least 1000.

That's a lot faster than counting and scales are cheaper than counter. You also might have other uses for a decent scale.

In addition to coins, I collect coin-operated machines. I suggest purchasing (ie: auction, eBay, coin-op sites, etc.)
an antique coin sorting/counting machine. Use for your needs, then sell it, possibly for a profit.

I sold a cent sorted that I'd made a while back. Used it to separate the coppers from the zincs. If your into fabrication it really wasn't hard. I used a coin conparitor from a vending machine (ebay $14) It didn't count but sure made two piles in a hurry. If I would of wanted to do rolling I would of set the discharge channel up to get the coin rolling then rolled them over holes that hold 50 .Fun project.

Weight basis is the easiest method of accounting for wheats or copper memorials. I forgot what the exact count is per pound (avoirdupois), but once you've established that, a fairly accurate bathroom scale or desktop postal scale is all you need. Keep it simple stupid is the catch phrase here. Unless the market value of copper Lincolns goes a hellalot higher than it is now, you can estimate a 1000 count bag will weigh 7 lbs.

In the Troy measurement system, 100 circ. copper Lincolns ($1.00 face) should weigh almost exactly 10 troy ounces. If you have the use of a triple beam balance scale, the above standard should make counting by weight fairly efficient also. image

3 1/2 year old counting to a 1,000 might be a little much and my 9 year old is ADHD.
