1808 half cent

I'm putting together a modest PCGS registry US type set, and was hunting for an early half cent for the slot this morning and came across this one. Most early copper has some sort of flaw, spots, markings, etc that detract from the overall eye appeal. Even though this one is a low grade F12, I just couldn't pass it up! I thought I'd post it here to share.

The details and overall color are excellent for the assigned grade I think. This one is a Cohen-3, R1 - whatever that means.
I'm guessing it's a variety?

<< <i>1808 is not an easy date and I like it because the second 8 was made from two small o's instead of an 8. Very nice coin for that grade. Check your PMs.

Is C-3 tough to find? I just picked one up a few days ago in VF with much the same look as the one in this thread. Maybe it seemed easy since it was just in the display case and I asked for it.
looking ones seem to be few and far between

Yes, a Cohen-3 is the most common die marriage of the three varieties (the other two are overdates).
Nonetheless, that's a "kick-ass" commercial F12. You did a very nice job. I do not think you need me to tell you that (but I did anyway).

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
