Why is an off-center Ike worth more than an off-center Lincoln?

The cent can be located for a couple of dollars while the Ike cost several hundred. I'm talking real off centered coins, not broadstruck ones.

It doesn't seem fair.

There are a lot more off-center Lincolns compared to off-center Ikes. Plus, an off-center Ike looks cooler since it's a bigger coin (at least to me).

Because the Ike is worth a hundred cents.

Show me an off centered IKE for $200? A decent one will run you a bit more than that. I have one I will sell you for $200, but it has counting wheel scratches on it.

Oh, and I have several hundred off centered cents that I will sell you at $7.00 each. image

If off-center IKEs were as common as off-center cents then you're right, it wouldhn't be fair.

But.........they just are not as common as those O/C cents AND the reason being that they were easier to spot by QC folks than those little tiny cents.

Of course, the larger the off centering, the larger the premium.

Try this expirement and report back to us please:

    1. Put 100 error coin collectors into one room together and lock the door.
    2. Then at the count of 10, throw 1 off-center cent and 1 off-center Ike up into the air so that it lands in the middle of the room while shouting at the top of your lungs, "Finders Keepers!"
    3. Run like hell.

I suspect that after this expirement what you will see is a giant dogpile with 99 error collectors on top of the person who first grabbed the Ike. You might also see some elbows flying and some face mask pulling until the ref climbs in to break it up. Somewhere in the bottom will be an error collector clinching the Ike for all his or her might along with a bruised eye or two. Tears may flow, but it was all worth the pain and a giant smile will emerge.

That behavior is why an off-center Ike can cost several hundred and an off-center cent a couple of dollars.

Rarity as opposed to common off center cents.

Now when you add Major Off Center Ike on a Taiwan Dollar Planchet, then you have a Unique and expensive specimen ..........

Maybe I missed something, but I do not think I was being funny at all. It was a serious question about your coin. Maybe you took offense to my question. If you did, no offense was meant. Eh, oh well, on to the next thread.

Like everything else in the marketplace, it comes down to supply and demand. Major Ike errors are far rarer and the demand is much higher than for a similar off cent cent.

Sorry there, I just have been asked that question so many times, I at least found humor in it.

That said, I do not send coins in to be certified. I spend my money, what little I have, on coins.

If I really wanted to sell it, then I would probably get it certified, but I am happy with it in my collection and the coin is what it is and plastic wont change it.

No, you're not alone. The Ike is bigger than a cent to me too.

Didn't you have this coin up for $35,000? That to me is serious, and should have authentication.
