ANSWER: 250 1972 Ikes to Search: Guess how many Type 2s?

If any.
There are some "D" mint coins, but it looks like less than 10%.
I'll post the answer tomorrow.
edited to add the D mint info.

zero most likely
but I was shocked when I found 3 out of 2 rolls
<< <i>what was the source? >>
710 coins came to the shop yesterday from a somewhat non-collector. His wife worked at a bank and saved the coins as they came in.
I'm pretty confident he did not search them.
<< <i>I am going based on your location, so I assume zero. I recently searched 1000 mixed IKEs (all years) and netted 7 type 2, all AU or better. I live in Florida. >>
I usually find a few when I search my bulk Ikes.
Found two Type 2 Ikes out of 100 coins

The name is LEE!
1972-D-----18.
Type One-----100.
Type Two-----2.
Type Three-----130.
I'm in the "under" thinkers.

I could not be sure from your post but it sounded like you were saying that it was a T3 based soley on the fact that it showed up that way when you registered it. If that is in fact the case you should check the coin out. Maybe you will be REALLY lucky and it is a T2!!
and it sets us apart from practitioners and consultants. Gregor
I'll post results at noontime.

If some one turned in a stash that had been sequestered for a couple of decades by a New Englander, then Keets and Lee are on the mark with two or three T2's, one or two being the March Release Variety. If the original source was central east coast and Florida, August Release Variety would dominate by roughly 10 to 1.
It's cool that a surprising percentage of circulated T2's are graded MS by PCGS because many were so dull rub doesn't show well. Rob

I am curious. Do you know in what part of the country this roll came from? Were the coins the March or August release?
edited to delete stutter.
An AU50 and two AU55 coins.
Thanks for the guesses.

I am afraid I do not, but the wrapper was tan, with rolled ends. The roll yielded one 62, two 63's, and one 64, all PCGS.

good deal

I agree.
I just sorted around 500 more coins (all dates) and found two more Type 2s. No 1971-D FEVs in the 1,200 total I sorted, though.

with this type of specialized variety detail?
Likewise, the two 72(P) T2's have a good story and can be distinguished by loupe with confidence (thanks to Ike fan John Roberts) so these two will also become keys for Ike collectors in time.
Just think, 10 years ago nobody paid any attention to the three 72(P) Ikes (except the remarkable Herbert P Hicks who wrote a definitive account in 1974 that still stands my hair on end). Rob
