The question is how many tickets did you buy each time? Are we talking 1-5 tickets to win 500$ both times or a lot more? You don't have to tell the truth, but I know some people go way overboard buying scratch offs

That's like the people playing slots in Vegas. They tell you when they've won a few thousand dollar jackpot but they never tell you how much they've lost over the years trying. Good for you, congrats!
You know I can only find $400 in winnings on this ticket. You have the 3 coins at $100 each and matched the # 30 for $100. What am I missing? But congratulations be it $400 or $500.

the 15 is also a number on top, the glare is covering it, which is also $100
<< <i>Seriously, what are the chances that your thread isn't OT? >>
That depends. If he keeps playing the lottery, statistics indicates that he will lose money. At some point, that will lead to another thread about the best venue to sell his collection. And yes, the lottery is just a tax on people who don't understand statistics.
Assuming the payout is $1 for every $2 taken in, and this probability is spread evenly across all prize levels, the odds of winning $500 on a single ticket is 1 in 1000. If you bought 5 tickets, the odds of winning $500 would be 1 in 200. If you bought 5 tickets twice, the odds of winning $500 twice would be 1 in 40,000.

I think you got it backwards. I agree that over the long haul, playing the lottery is a losing proposition.

seems if you are winning this much cash, and Mr. Feld is chastising you on OT threads...the only answer is to give Mr. Feld your winnings and let him sell you a coin...which you can post as "Look at the Great Coin I bought from Mr. Feld " and then your thread wont be OT.

In my limited experience, people who win anything of consequence in the lottery never mention the other 7,000 tickets they bought threw the years that they ended up tearing into small pieces and chucking into the trash.

Only 7000? I have probably bought that many over the last 20+ years divided among scratch off and lotto style. I don't have any other spending vices, aside from gambling with a small % of discretionary funds, so I figure "why not?". One only lives once and if one does happen to hit "the big one", then it is worth it. If one doesn't, and one doesn't go outside their means, then it is better than smoking or drinking and driving.
Now, if I did hit, I would be buying me some coins , not starting off topic threads
Are you sure he is ahead? He might still be playing catch-up.

I read an article yesterday on some news site about some statistician who figured out which tickets were winners in a Tic Tac Toe Scratch off game based on the serial numbers of the tickets. His success rate was over 90%. Then he ran the numbers of going after the big score and determined based on the amount of time he needed to look at each ticket he could only bring in about $600 a day and that it wasn't the big score he was looking for. He called lotto officials and told them he broke one of their games and they ignored him. Then he mailed the lotto security guy 20 tickets and 19 were winners. They shut the game down.

I meant the opposite of what I said but made the calculations from what I meant.
Hit on 4 numbers once.
It gets you excited...........
And yes the likker store in my little town is littered outside with torn up scratch off 'losers'.
<< <i>Did you buy $1001 in lottery scratch off tickets to find the (2) $500 tickets ......
Actually no lol I played about $100 worth of losers before I won the $1000.
Yes, but I only minored in Math.
