The OFFICIAL keyman64 Lakeland Coin Show Report :)

I was only able to attend on Sunday for the 3-Day Show. The Sunday hours were from 10am-4pm. I walked in about 11am after answering the question "Do you have any weapons on you?"....there were several ways that I could have answer that question but I answered it so that I could get into the show without further questioning from the 80+ year old "Security Guard". I walked in to find about 1/3 of the tables were already packed up. I understand I guess but at the same time it is very disappointing. I could see 2pm or 3pm.....but holy cow it seems to me that 1/3 of the tables were only there for 2 out of the 3 days. Oh well....I could only make it on Sunday so I take what I can get I guess. Not a gripe really, just reality.
I sold my complete Franklin set in MS62-65 with a couple in FBL, a couple in slabs but mostly raw. One guy offered me $450, another offered me $525, another offered me $550....I sold them to the guy that was willing to buy them for $650 because it was a nice set and he had a few customers that could use them.
I was happy. I did not have to pay to have them shipped anywhere, I did not have to pay about 12% in eBay/Paypal fees....and I kept my 1955 Bugs Bunny from the set....it's a nice MS63. Over 9 years that it took me to put together the set in my spare time etc...I spent about $625 on the entire set including the Bugs Bunny....so I was happy that I could get out of it and now put those dollars towards my Merc Dimes. Just from this transaction I would call the day a success for me.
I then walked the entire floor looking for new toys. I talked to a few very nice people. I went digging through two "Bargain Boxes" of slabbed coins for a few minutes. I bought one errrrr, ummmm, slab, not the coin. 1963-D PCGS MS64 10c SAMPLE SLAB. How much do these things go for normally? I paid $10 just for the fun of it. It is a green label with dark green reverse and gold lettering etc. I figured I wasn't going to lose too much money on the deal.
I have no idea how much the coin is worth...probably melt. LOL. Too bad it wasn't a DOILY.
I then turned towards my primary focus these days, Mercury Dime Varieties. I asked to see just about every MS Merc in the place that is known to be attributed in the Cherrypickers' Guide. I found a 1941. At first I thought it might be the DDO that I was looking for but NOPE...it was just really cool Shelf-Doubling on In God We Trust. It is probably MS63 with about 3/4 FB. I picked it up because I liked it, not because it was valuable. $6.
Well, I kept looking and looking and found a 1941 DDO in MS63 or better RAW. It was not attibuted and it was raw. Not a bad coin for $10!
There are only TWO attributed in PCGS holders. One is XF40 and the other is AU58. I will hold out until I find another one in a higher grade or at least FB instead of submiting this one I think....who knows.
I was there for just over two hours and had a very nice time. I will likely return next year but hopefully I will make it there on Saturday instead of Sunday.

Sounds typical. Sunday is always the worst day. Everything is picked over and most dealers are gone.
Nice find on the 1941 DDO. Hope it is the right one. I have one in a NGC66FB that I hope will cross and is the right one.
<< <i>It sounds like you had a good time. Let me know when I can take the MS63 DDO off your hands. You know I have the 58 and would like to upgrade.
I'm not 100% sure I have the right one but I am pretty darn sure...whatever that means.

With the coin photography luck I have had lately I think finding another would be easier at this point. If I do not find another between now and Summer FUN then I will get photos taken then....or maybe I will find the energy to try the photography again in a month or two...ugh.

I know a number of the dealers had been there since Thur for set up day, and I heard Sat was quite busy. They probably figured they had conducted most of the business they were going to conduct, and had to get back for other obligations.
<< <i>Thanks for the report, and sounds like you had a good time despite the lack of dealers.

Yup, I heard many of them chatting about how it is hard to pull off a long show then travel for a long time on Sunday night...then open up shop on Monday morning. Certainly not easy. I don't blame them.
