Inverted Mintmark as found on page 307 of cherry pickers guide fifth edition volume 1?

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

  • Why yes it is, that is actually a tough coin! I looked for a long time for one, going through hundreds of 41-S. Finally got one in MS from another Jefferson variety collector and yet to have found one in circ! If you ever want to sell PM me, otherwise hold on to that sucka.
  • Thank you for your quick reply. I just love this 34 dollar microscope camera.

    Morganmaniac,

Well, I guess I'll have to throw a little tar into this thread. While the 'S' looks inverted, it's not the one in Cherry Pickers. Notice the location of the 'S' to the building. It needs to be tucked in closer to the corner and not stick out past the edge of the side steps. Tough to see on a circulated example, but the two die scartches at the rim of the coin (one above and below the S) has been present on all the true Cherry Pickers Inverted Ss that I have seen. However, another Jefferson Collector insists there are two other Inverted Ss, where the 'S' is positioned further out from the building like yours. So, we have a tough one here! While an Inverted S, it's not the one identified in Cherry Pickers. I compare this to the 1955-D/S. There are several (10 or 12?) different D/Ss, PCGS only attributes OMM#1.

For what it's worth, this is just one lowly Jefferson Nickel collectors opinion! Oh yes, nice pictures by the way!

  • Thanks for the information. So is this something of interest or is this just another Jefferson?

    Cliff,

In this circulated condition, just another Jefferson.

    Keep the Jefferson posts coming!
